    Need your opinion

I was thinking about getting back into and thought about getting this:

Lee 50th Anniversary Breech Lock Challenger Kit
Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply has ammo and reloading supplies for sale at cheap prices. Find out why we're the best deal on the web today!

I don't have a ton of money so I thought this would give me the most bang-for-my-buck

    Thoughts?

Single stage is a great way to learn the steps and it will make the eventual jump to a progressive much easier. You will always need a single stage also since evnetually you will be reloading rifle if you own any. I have that same kit and really like it. AN RCBS will be alot more solid feeling but in my opinion as someone who has owned a RCBS jr and a RCBS Rock chucker supreme, they did not load any better than the $150.00 cheaper LEE kit.

I was (am??) in the same noob boat as you... I read a lot of online reviews that said that particular scale in that set... wasn't so great at all.

Have some acquaintances who work with Dillon equipment for a living, they recommended RCBS Rock Chucker, and all told stories of how they broke Lee stuff.

Also had the opportunity to see a lot of this gear in person at a few shops. RCBS stuff looked and felt more substantial, and of better build quality, IMO.

So I got he RC kit at about 3x the price as that lee kit. Not that I could afford it much better, but I had the cash. I'm very happy with it, have only loaded one batch so far, they all went bang and went down range, so I'm happy.

If you're fortunate enough to find RCBS used, go for it. (heard lots of comments about getting a hold of Dad's/Grampa's Rock Chucker and it seems just like new) If you're okay working knowing the limitations and price-point of the Lee set, go for that as well.

Its like any other tool, you need one only good enough to perform (and last through) the work you expect out of it, but its always nicer using nicer tools.

Since I figure I want to reload a long time after they ban it all, I got the
              higher quality set.

Lee is very good for the price. If at all passable and if you really plan to get back into, save for a progressive. Non the less you will be happy with the Lee, I have loaded, resize/decapped thousands of thousands of .308 rounds and it is still running tough.

I believe in the buy once, cry once idea. I also want to buy from a companythat has a great warr and customer service.....think RCBS/Hornady. Lee stands behind their products as well.....the only trouble it is so far behind that they cannot be seen or do anything for you without costing you.

However for cheap stuff the lee will work. Just drive you nuts trying to get it to do so and you never know for how long. Then you will get a ration of cr*p and no good service.

Look on ebay for used RCBS/Hornady stuff if you need to save money.

Besides you do not want to start reloading now since getting supplies is getting too hard and will only get worse.

                    My 2 Cents
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I threw away the lee scale. It was crap. I mean just not freaking ok. Not part of a kit. Not used. Ordered from Natchez or midway I forget. Rcbs used on here for $50 was awesome. Ymmv

I was also looking into the Lee kit. So I'll throw a few more questions on here

Is there a problem with it doing pistol calibers? Specifically 9mm and 45acp.

It sounds like the scale in the kit is garbage... is there a good replacement?

Is there anything else that is "must" get when buying this kit?

I was considering the Dillon and Hornady but the "extreme" cost difference is balking me right now

Lee does well with pistol calibers especially the carbide dies (straight walled cases do not require lubing). Yes the scale sux I went with DPS1200 in the $300 range, I love it. It is expensive for a starter scale. I disagree with the previous posts regarding Lee customer service. They have always been very good to me.

Maybe you can get some of my lee stuff replaced then. I have never had any success with them. 2-3 hand primers, 2+ mil primer punches and I will look and see what else.

Not busting your ba**s but that has been my expierence for many years with them.

Never will need another scale. Its a RCBS 505 in blue cloths and cheaper.
