    Surplus bullets + powder?

    Hey everyone--

I've been looking around and want to know if anyone here has any suggestions for purchasing "bulk" or "surplus" ammo and powder?

I'm looking to reload .223, .40SW, and, down the line, .308-- looking for plinking so I don't need to care about 0.1MOA.

    You all rock :-)

Good luck finding anything anywhere right now with all of the retards and their idiotic panic buying as if ammunition is in danger.

I purchased .308 secondb ullets from Widners and Midsouth shooters supply a year ago for a great price of $16/100 pc. When I compared them to my factory name brand bullets they were exactly like SMK's. I weighted and measured over 200 and they were all in spec's of SMK's and don't see why they were marked as seconds.

Some people said they were not accurate but they shot just as well as my Sierra MKs when shot side by side out of several rifles.

I use WC844 and use Hodgdon 335 load data -.5 gr. It works great for .223 plinking loads up to 69 gr projectiles.

The three main surplus powder suppliers, GI Brass, Pat's reloading and Hi Tech are all sold out of WC844-WC846. You'll have to scour the net to see if anyone may have an 8 lb. jug or two. Expect to pay higher prices due to the current frenzy.

Right now is just a bad time to buy surplus components.

When do you expect for it to die down?

                    What about bullets?

Fortunately, I think the panic component buying will die down in a couple of months even if the panic gun and ammo buying continues. Newbs will keep buying ammo even if they have 2 years supply, but after 24 pounds of powder and 10k primers that they will never load, the buying will slow down.

That's where you can probably cash in. Just like the $700 AR's that went for $1500 in 2008/9 and back down to $700 in 2012 just a couple of months ago.

Next time, just buy an extra box of primers and 500 extra bullets every other purchase and you will have a years supply painlessly.
