    Hornady Ballistic Calculator.

    Guys,

The Hornady Ballistic calculator is an excellent resource for constructing range cards for long range shooting. Thanks, USMCM16A2

I'll have to check it out. JBM's been my go-to for ever it seems. Does very well.

Here is a LINK for those of you not familiar with the Hornady calculator.

I've used this myself. Very simple and easy to use.

I use an MS Excel spreadsheet (which does Rosette's for highpower).

          Hey 30 Cal,

Thanks for that spreadsheet. Nice to have something to use offline.

Look for ballistic programs that handle multiple BC's with velocity thresholds.
You will get more accurate results.

I run Quicktarget (came with quickload) and after we zeroed and got hard dope in the desert a couple months ago, I put all the measured data into quicktarget and the results were well within 1/4 moa out to the 835yds that I had hard dope for.

The single BC programs can't account as well for the change in BC due to velocity loss so they will tend to get further and further off at long ranges.
What most people do is trick the velocity or BC to get proper results, but that's not the best way to do it.

If you ever want me to run your numbers through quicktarget, just send me all pertinent info in a PM.

The Exbal software from Nightforce is good stuff, too. You have a catalog of BC's for all bullets commercially available, plus it comes in 3 formats, too - including Palm Pilot for instant data in the field!

JBM, despite its shortcomings, has been relatively accurate for me. What can I say, I've been a cheapskate for a while. Doesn't really matter anyway as the scenars I'm using aren't listed with multiple BC's. Many guys have had good luck using the given values for the 175 SMK.

Does quicktarget have a function where you can input actual comeups and get a real BC or DK for the bullet? Reason I ask is I'm looking at Field Firing Solutions software for a PDA and it has that ability. Once the actual behavior of the bullet is inputted with a given set of conditions, when conditions change, it uses the actual data to determine drop at the different conditions. Seems like a winner.

I keep it simple because I seldom travel with more weather gear than just a thermometer. I prefer whole numbers to decimals that are misleadingly long.

I don't think so, but I have not fully explored it yet.
Inputting come-ups is not nearly as valuable as inputting velocities.
The hard part about inputting velocities is that you need a bunch of chronographs tracking the same exact bullet.
