    another .45 powder question

I've searched for info powders and .45, and it seems that 231 or Clays are popular choices.

Is one cleaner than the other? Im mostly plinking with my TRP Operator and H&K USC 45, and Im really anal about cleaning. So cleaner is better.

Also, for Clays, is it plain Clays or Universal Clays?

    TIA.

Is there a difference between Universal Clay's and Hogdon Clay's? I keep seeing references for both as well as just "Clay's". Couldn't find anything using the search function. I don't want to follow incorrect load data and have a problem. Right now, I'm concerned with .45 ACP and 9x19 load...

From what I remember, the clays stuff has a softer feel to it than 231, it's cleaner burning, and a pound of it nets you more rounds because you use a smaller charge weight (compared to 231).

I think universal clays is probably cleaner than 231, but look at Vitavouri powders to be some of the cleanest burning powders available.

Clays (just plain Clays) is VERY clean buring, cleaner than bullseye or 231. International Clays is a little slower, still very clean burning. Universal is slower yet, and not as clean until the pressures rise a bit. Universal is pretty close to Unique.

In the past couple of years I've tested all of these for use in revolver competition, both .38 special and .45ACP. Cleanliness is very important if you're reloading on the clock.

        all the best,

There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

I had very good result with light loads (plain Clays). Very clean birning.
For full power load I am using 231. Good enough for me.
