    9mm primer question

    Hello everyone,

I have been reloading .223 on my Dillon 650 for a while and am now venturing into 9mm.

What primer would you recommend? Source?
    Bullet source?

I have plenty of brass and the powder question seems to have been answered many times over. Thanks for looking and taking the time to respond.

I've been using CCI's with great success, have some Winchester's when they run out. Wolf has the hardest cups, CCI is right up there. Federal's are the softest.

I was reading a thread in here a week or two back where people were talking about using small rifle primers in place of small pistol. I haven't tried it, so Google it to get details. I think the subject on that one had something to do with spp .45 brass.

For 9mm, Winchester SPP works pretty well for me. CCI 500's are great as well. Powder Valley is where I get most of my powder and primers.

For 9mm projectiles, I think Precision Delta and Montana Gold offer the best value for non-lead, both from their websites. For lead I prefer S&S Casting (aka SNS Casting, again from their website).

To speak to SR primers in pistol use, they work fine IF your firing pin has enough energy to ignite them. Best to stick with SP if you can though.

I usually get WW or CCI in both regular and magnum, also have run Federal, RP, Tula (hardest to seat) and PMC non toxic. I buy primers, powder and bullets from a local distributor. My load is a Bear Creek 125 grain truncated cone on top of 4 grains of TiteGroup at 1.155" overall, goes about 1,080 fps out of a G17 with a BarSto barrel.

CCI Small Pistol Primer. No need to do anything inventive. That's what you need, that's what they take. Brand doesn't seem to matter much but I prefer CCI so all my numbers line up.

Any brand works just fine. Buy what you can get right now. I use Xtreme and Berry's plated bullets.

Cci small pistol primers have worked well in both my Glocks and 1911s. I use both Montana Gold and Xtreme 124gr rn bullets. 4.2 grains of Win 231 makes a good minor load.

I have also used Remington small rifle primers in my .357 Magnum T.C. Contender due to buying the wrong ones and needing to use them up. They all went bang, but I would recommend the correct ones if possible. I would also recommend AGAINST using magnum small pistol primers in 9mm due to possible pressure spike issues.

Whatever SPP you can find these days.

From what I've been hearing, lots of places are completely out of stock.
