    Basic used brass value question...

I have access to free piles of used brass from my side gig. If I saved it up it would add up pretty quick. I had been donating it for the last several years but just decided to start piling it up as a house move has freed up a lot of space. How much is once fired .40 brass worth? Keep in mind it was all run through Glocks so I know some folks wont touch it.

An ammo outfit like Brassman pays about $2.25/lb. A metal recycler pays around $1.90/lbs. Those rates are current as of Summer 2012.

Sell it as once fired to reloaders...maybe $50/1000 pieces. Probably need to tumble and/or deprime for that rate.

Thanks for your input. I picked up 2500 shells from one day of work last week.

I was looking for some .40 S&W cases a few months ago before finding someone local to trade with. Seems like 9mm is a little more in demand than 40 so even though the 40 is a little heavier (~18%), I would pay the same per thousand for both types +shipping. Check out gunbroker.com to get an idea.

Figure 1,000 shells equals 10 pounds. I sold some cleaned but not processed for $25.00 per 1,000 plus shipping a couple of weeks past that was from a LEO range.

I pay somewhere around $36/k shipped for 9mm tumbled. I'd imagine. 40 to cost significantly more.

since .40S&W is probably the most common cartridge used by law enforcement these days, there is plenty of it available on the once fired market, it usually goes for about $35 per 1,000 which is way cheaper then 45acp and sometimes even cheaper than 9mm

I wouldn't care that it has been through a Glock, personally.
