    reloading 40 s&W

Have been reloading for a couple of years now, mainly 38, 357, 9mm and 45 acp with great success.

I want to reload for my g23 and i am little worried by all the kabooms stories. I have some range brass which I acquired a while back and would like to load some Berries 180's with 4.5gr w231...

    Any suggestions, advice ?

Don't worry about kabooms. Glocks are no more susceptible to this than any other gun. Follow published data and you'll be fine. Don't believe all the Glock myths you read on the Internet. Just remember to keep your OAL around 1.125-1.135.

I would invest in a lee bulge buster kit along with a lee .40 factory crimp die.
These reduce the bulge that comes from firing .40 cases in a Glock.

The life span of cases may be shorter due to the constant resizing of cases using the Bulge Buster.

Loading for .40 S&W is pretty easy if you start your loads low and work your way up from there.

Also, I've used W231 for loading for .40 and have found that it tends to leave a bit of unburnt powder when using lighter loads.

4.5gr should work perfectly at 1.125 OAL.

        Have fun, good luck.

I bought my G23 in '96, I've been shooting cast bullets reloads. I never noticed a bulged case from it. Internet has a lot of stories about G23s and bulged brass. When I looked at the images of unsupported Glock brass and then at my pistol, the barrel is right out to the extractor groove. Supposedly Glock fixed it after my gun was built, but I don't have the unsupported chamber. Don't know why, but there it is.

Thanks. I'll load some tomorrow. Anyone have a favorite powder for the 40 ? Do the 150 grainers shoot better than the 180's?

I load 180gr almost exclusively, but truth be told, I mainly use my 40 brass for 10mm loads in my G29SF and G20SF. If I was loading only for 40S&W, I might drop back to buying 165gr bullets.

For max HP, I think Longshot is hard to beat. Another good one is Power Pistol and if you are loading 180's, Blue Dot is worth a look. But for one powder uber ales, Longshot.

Power Pistol is clean burning, but has bit of a bark and flash

I like VV N320 with 200 grain moly lead.
