    Reloading help

I am a noob to reloading lets just get that out there. Here is my pan. I have 220 brass casings for .270 Winchester. These were fired from a different gun than mine so using a simply lee loader wouldn't work since it only neck sizes them (correct me if I'm wrong) So I want to buy a Lee Reloader Press and a set of dies. (These will be shot out of a bolt action) The confusing part for me is which set of dies to buy.

    Lee Deluxe 3 Die Sets

    or

    Lee PaceSetter Die Sets

This is also a noob question but both sets of dies have a de-primer too? Also I would have to buy a separate priming die to add a primer to all the rounds.

Thank you very much for any help.

Yes, you will need to full-length resize your brass. Not too familiar with the Lee stuff, so I can't help you there.

If you're just getting started, Cabela's has the Rockchucker kit on sale for $249 and RCBS is offering a $50 rebate if you buy $300 of their stuff. You would be getting a killer deal on the kit and your dies would basically be free. Check it out!

The Lee Pacesetter dies will work fine. There isn't a priming die. Lee sells a handheld priming tool that works great.

You may or may not need to full length size the cases, they may chamber in your rifle with only neck sizing. It still is good to get a F/L sizing die (as well as a Lee collet neck sizer for subsequent sizing).

Get a copy of Lee 2nd Edition Reloading Manual when you get the press and read the reloading how-to section, it is not all that long. After that you will have tons of load data to try out with your 270.

I like Redding dies for all my hunting cartridges. I have a bunch of Lee dies for all other stuff.

I would suggest the Lee Classic Turret Kit:

I have never had an issue with the lee dies, just make sure you use a decent case lube.

Either or ... not a whole lot of difference

The sizing die has a decapper to remove the primer simultaneously as you size the brass ..... and that ram primer would probably be good for your needs

For Bolt guns, I like the 3 die set. Use the F/L die the first time you reload the brass. Use the Neck Sizer till the Brass won't chamber anymore.
Both the F/L & Neck sizers will decap the Primer.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Will I need to buy a Brass Case Trimmer to reload for my bolt action?

...you might, it depends on how much the brass was stretched in the 'other' rifles. The brass from your own gun, probably not yet.
Eventually though, you will need to trim at some point.
Get a caliper, you'll need it to measure the cartridge overall length when you seat the bullets and to measure, the brass length.
A case mouth chamfer tool is good to have as well, to make starting/seating the bullets into the case easier.

If I was just to full length re-size and neck size would I be pushing my luck or would they fit into my gun?

You will need a case trimmer. Many times when you full length size the brass it will grow past maximum length and need trimming. The simple Lee hand trimmer will work fine (NOT THE Lee ZIP TRIM). If you start loading a lot, you will want either one of those cam lock lathe style trimmers, or a fancy power trimmer like possum hollow or CTS sells, but not for a while.

If you F/L size it will fit your gun (if the length is not past maximum, see trim above). Neck sizing is for after you have shot the case in your chamber.

To simplify what can happen, if brass get's too long, it will grow past the chamber and grab the bullet on it's way out. This will cause increased pressure and can lead to malfunctions from sticky bolts to the gun blowing up in your face. So, is the cost of a trimmer worth more than your safety/life/rifle?

Imperial sizing wax is the BEST commercial case lube out there.

A cheap Lee single stage will get you by. I have many more robust and expensive presses and I sometimes opt to use my Lee HANDPRESS for fun.

Post your location and someone might offer to help you learn to reload. If you're in Socal, I can show you the little I know.
