7.35 carcano

can't imagine there's a ton of interest in this, but i'm sure a few of you can benefit from some data. looking over what little data i could glean for the 7.35 carcano, i whipped up a quick load to try out with my newly-acquired m38 short rifle in 7.35x51. i bought Prvi brass(primed) and hornady bullets, 128gr sp from grafs and loaded up with 38.0 grains of BL-C(2). this is an absolutely fantastic load. recoil is pleasant, something akin to firing 7.62x39 i'd say, and it was stupidly accurate. i didn't put it on paper, but we shoot out in the desert, and i hit pretty much anything i pointed it at within 150 yards or so. chased a tennis ball, turned a pumpkin into a friggin' canoe(those 128 soft points leave a nasty wound channel), shot clays, killed a cheap swinger with it, all kinds of things. it was a fantastic experience and even my brother, Mr. Black Rifle, really enjoyed it. currently the rifle resides in a very-sporterized original stock that has no handguard and ends about 6 inches beyond the magazine. i have received my replacement stock/handguard but it's almost a shame to mess with this thing because it shoots so well. anyhow, just thought i'd share, hope this helps some of the other weirdos like me. next up, i'll be loading 6.5 carcano and 8x56r for field testing.

with the components available at such reasonable prices it really is a waste NOT to take out these old warhorses and shoot them. the available bullets work great and prvi brass is cheaper primed than unprimed when available. only had 1 primer that required a second strike, which i found strange but like i said, very accurate load. one day i'll chrono these to find out what they actually do but it was just a great experience. i seated the bullets right to the cannellure and they functioned perfectly. didn't bother to measure C.O.L. anyhow, hope you get your buddy to drag that beauty out. if you need anything, give me a holler. i'm only missing one part to complete my project once i finish my new stock. just need a barrel band and i'll have this baby together.

bought lee dies because all their stuff, even the weird calibers like this, are like 28 bucks. they're also easier to use, in my experience, and very good quality. i likely won't develop this load any further because it performed flawlessly. not really into cast bullets yet but may get there.
