    How many people here cast?

    And what do you cast?

    I'm curious. I only cast three different rounds... .40S&W, .45ACP, and .310 (for 7.62x54).

I've been considering getting a .45/70 just for casting.

      9mm, 357/38, 40SW, 45 . I must be mould poor, only 25! But probally over a ton of lead/wheel weights/linotype stashed!

I do, but only when I can get my hands on free lead. I cast for 9mm, 40, 45, and 45/70.

My favorite load for 45/70 is my 405gr lee tumble lubed bullet over 14gr of Unique. Fun to shoot, cheap, and accurate.

I have "a few" molds from .177 air gun pellets to .69cal RBs, 12g slug, etc. But, the molds I use most are my 8-10 cavity HG molds for 9mm, .38 and .45acp. I also use my .25acp mold and a few RB molds more oftem than most of the others.

I had my first casting experience a couple of years ago when BigBronco let me cast a handful of .45's. I enjoyed it and planned to get started but when I tried to find lead in my area I came up empty. I tried asking for wheel weights at my local tire dealer but they told me they return them to their dealer and also said that the weights they use now are more alloy than lead.

I still would like to try my hand at casting but with the difficulty to get lead I am turned off by it.

This won't be the best answer, but there's always EBay. If you hunt around on EBay you can often find lead for about a dollar, shipped. That's not too terrible. Instead of spending $50 for 500 200gr casts you can spend $50 to make 1,750 200gr casts. 350% more cost effective.

Alternatively, THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS! Go mine in a berm at your local range. Or check with an indoor range and see if they'll let you sweep?

                  38/357, 40, 45ACP
Only 3 molds, but they're all Lee 6 bangers and I love them. 500 bullets in less than an hour of casting. In an extended session, the biggest challenge is keeping the pot filled while pouring.

Just recently started to cast after sitting on the equipment to do so for quiete a few years. Got a nice H&G 4 cavity mold for the 200 gr. SWC, a Lee 6 ganger for the 9mm 125gr. TC, and another Lee 6 cavity .38 caliber 158 gr. SWC. They are fun to use, but the lead situation also has me down. I was lucky and got a few 5 gallon buckets worth of wheel weights back in 2006 in trade for some fishing weights I cast for a guy who owned a garage. Got another 250 pounds at a dollar a pound off a guy who was given the stuff by a friend who got it from a range backstop.

I mainly cast leadheads for fishing back then as the leadheads are $0.25 each versus the $0.04 each (or less) cast bullet USED to cost me. Now with 45 calibered 200gr. SWC cast going for $85-$100 per thousand I can't see doing it any other way.....even if I have to pay $1 a pound for the scrap lead ingots. I am looking for lead now.

At first glance I thought those were all five gallon buckets and I couldn't figure out how you moved them around.

                              BZ, very nice.
