Looking for a multi-purpose powder, need suggestions.

I am new to reloading and I want a powder that will be decent in 10mm, .45 acp and .40s&w. I have looked at some of the charts and no powder seems to used in 10mm and .45 acp. Trying to keep costs down. My reloads will be used for target shooting and practice.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I load 9mm, 40, and .45 all with Bullseye, I have not checked the powders for 10mm, but I would bet Bullseye will work as well. Bullseye has a great load range and is very forgiving, and is very inexpensive to boot.

Power pistol is a "do everything" semi-high performance powder. Alliant doesn't list data for the heavier bullets(10mm) with it, but it can be found elsewhere

Don't know about 40 or 10mm, but I really like W231/HP38 for 9mm and 45acp.

Unique or BE might work for all 3 calibers, but you will not get the best 10 loads with either of those powders.... You would need a different powder for 10.

I use Unique for .45 in my Dillon 1050.

Don't reload 9 because it's so cheap; might change my mind later.

But for 10MM that is a different animal. If you want a good 10MM load you will probably (my opinion) have to use:

1. Longshot (my current load powder using 175 grain silvertip)

2. AA#9

3. For lighter bullets (example 135 Grain Hornadys at 1500 FPS) I use AA#5

4. 800X (nice and hot but be aware the corn-flake shape make it harder to get consistency. JMO) 800X would be a custom hunting load at max pressure; weigh each round individually for consistency and safety.

5. AA#7 as well. Consult the books.

AA makes some good stuff.

If I had to pick one general powder for range shooting and plinking in 10MM it would be AA#5. I safely (under pressure) run 135 Grains at 1500 FPS, 155 grains at 1350 FPS with AA#5 all-day-long. No pressure issues.

Once you get up to the heavier 175, 180 and 200 grain 10MM boolets, I switch over to AA#9 (which fills the case, but doesn't at least you won't get a double charge) or Longshot which meters beautifully. Longshot behind a 175 grain silvertip is my go-to-defense-load.

AA or Longshot. My 2 favorites.

Titegroup will work in all 3 calibers. You might want to listen to the guys with experience with the 10mm. It's a different beast than the 40 and 45. I use TG for 40 and really like it. You might think about 2 powders.

For certain, if you want to get as close to optimal ballistics as you can, you will need more than one powder, definitely if you include 10mm in the group.

Unique will probably deliver the widest range of performance in the calibers you listed. The negative with Unique is it burns pretty dirty until you get closer to max loads. It also doesn't meter very well in drops, but it is also pretty forgiving at anything less than max loads, a few tenths here or there won't make a big difference.

W231/HP38 (same powder) is another choice. It won't deliver the ballistics on the higher end say with heavier bullets in 10mm (like 100fps less than Unique with a 180gr bullet in 10mm). The good news is W231/HP38 meters very consistently out of powder drops and burns a little cleaner than Unique at mid-ranges. If I just wanted a single powder that goes bang for plinking in the calibers you listed W231 would likely be my choice.
