44 mag load with Cast Performance 255 Gr. WFNPB

Just wondering if anyone out there has a good recipe for the Cast Performance 255 gr. WFNPB bullet. I would like to use this bullet for hog hunting and load it to around the 1200 FPS range. I have most every powder and primer on hand so that's not a problem. I just cant find any data for this bullet. I will be using it in a Ruger SRH 7.5" barrel. Any help sure would be appreciated. Thanks.

In that weight class for plain base lead, my favorite is 17.5gr of AA#9. That will likely bring you in a little higher than 1200fps, so if you start down around 16.0grs and work up, you should get to your target 1200fps before you get to the 17.5 number. The max load for AA#9 and a 275gr WFNPB bullet is 17.9gr, so you have some headroom with your 255gr bullet.

    Good luck, have fun.

Thanks a million Bill. As luck would have it I have a few pounds of AA9 on hand and 16 Gr sounds like a good place to start. Thanks again.

I know they say that lead is good medicine for hogs, but then I read Elmer Keith and Bob Milek, where they tell of it flattening out when it hits bone and shears off instead of doing the job. And I'm not sure I'd trust it, myself. I am going to work up a 270 JSP for my hog hunts. Let us know how it comes out, please! Luck to you!

24grs of H110/W296 with a 255gr HC bullet gives me 1520fps from a Ruger Redhawk. It's stout load.

Thanks everyone, and Wtkaiser I have been using the Lymsn 300 gr. SWCGC for years and have never seen a problem with them shearing or breaking as long as you use a good alloy, I use straight Linotype. Havering put down a couple of hogs well over 300 pounds I can say those run right through whatever you hit with them flank, bone even trees. Only looking to the 255 gr bullet for a bit less recoil as my hands are getting old and those hot 300 Gr loads hurt. Anyway thank again for the help everyone.

Thanks for correcting me. Bullets are still evolving after all these years, and those who have gone before would probably give their eyeteeth for todays bulletsl Thanks for the update.
