Separating cases in lever action carbines

I had a .357 reload separate in my Rossi recently, the case came apart midships and the rear part extracted leaving the front half in the chamber. Today the same thing happened with a .44 in another Rossi. I looked at the remaining reloads and realized that some of the cases have cannelures at that point and on the cases this point has the indicator of case separation waiting to happen. I have no idea how many times the cases have been reloaded but probably a number of times. Something to watch out for as it is a real pain extracting the case from the chamber. I had to disassemble the .357 to get the separated case out and may end up having to do the same with this one.

Ya need one of those broken case extractor thingies Bro! I got one for my SMLE's & it worked well for me twice.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I quit buying "once fired" .357 and .44RM brass, it turned out to be bad economy. I now only buy new brass for these calibers from Starline directly from their website.

I had the same problem with my Rossi 44 Mag. I was shooting factory ammunition at the time. Besides, the rifle had several other issues. I contacted Interarms who is the importer at the time. They had me send the rifle back with the explanation. A week later, I had a replacement rifle delivered to my door. If the case splits, it can be the oversized chamber. Maybe you should check it out first.

It is possible but I have fired a number of reloads through the rifle previously without a problem. I used a chamber brush for an AR15 to pull the case out of the chamber.

You might check out the forum at rossi-rifleman.com. That is where I go to for all my Rossi inquires.
