Dies for new xl 650

So, I have my first progressive press, a Dillon 650. I have used rcbs and redding dies for my single stage with good luck. What do you think of the dillion dies? Are there any real advantages to using them over the others?

They are the easiest to work with. After so many round pressed out you need to clean the dies. Get the bullet wax and lead shards out. The dillon dies use a hairpin to drop the internals and cleaning is easy. Regular dies you will not be able to clean without removing them from the die plate.

To me, for handgun, the Dillon dies are the best and worth the money.

Dillon dies are probably best, I believe they have a beveled opening to allow for smoother access. I have RCBS dies and they work fine so its up to you honestly.

Dillon dies just work better in progressives. I have RCBS, Lee and Redding dies that I still use in my single stage, but I'm replacing everything with Dillon's for the progressives.

Dillon dies are the best for progressives. Like already mentioned the carbide insert is slightly beveled for smoother operation. It is also slightly recessed so you don't have to worry about running the die down into the shellplate. Seating and crimping dies also come apart real easy to clean, no loss of adjustment. I wish they made more rifle die sets than the three or four they make now.

That's some pretty strong agreement. I appreciate the advise and will take it. The good news is I only used my single stage for rifles and my .44, so my new pistol dies will be first time purchases. Thanks everyone.

The radius entry makes brass jamming a thing of the past. Progressive presses have a bit of slop and wiggle and are not as tight and centered as a 1 stage is.

The only time I have any jamming issues is in the powder drop die. .223 is the worse.

Love my Dillon dies.... only others I've used is Redding for a brief time and those worked fine. I just like to stick with Dillon especially with a 650!

Your are best to start with Dillon dies for the 650 IMHO. After you are well versed in how to care for and feed the 650 beast you can try something else, but for now go Dillon.

Dillon dies are well worth it for the progressive press. I have had a Dillon 550 since 1992 and I have used other dies in the progressive press but from experience the Dillons work the best ! There may be some special purposes that another mfgs. die may be needed.

That table may not support the press enough so you do not have case wiggle and press wiggle or shake. If you get the case feeder it will be worse. You need a stronger table.
