Reloading Austrial 7.62 surplus... two primer holes?

I'm not sure what's up with this but normally a brass shell has a single hole between the primer and the powder. I've noticed that my Australian Military Surplus has two small holes side by side.

Can I reload this? Wtf Mate!

    No

It's berdine so scrap it out. There is a way to do it. But I've never seen it done. The berdine primer is larger than U.S. Primers. You have to have the right tools, and I don't think they sell them in the US

+1, scrap that brass, and buy reloadable brass.

It's Berdan primered which takes specific reloading equipment and techniques to reload it.

        Here's some information:

What you got is a berdan primer. Personally i don't mess with it. Don't try to deprime it like a boxer primer.

            Ahhhhhhhh

I have 200 rounds of reloading but I have 800 of the australian laying around. Thought I could use that. Already munged up a decapping pin on them (Thankfully I have 13 more. heh)

            Neeeeeeeeeeeeevermind about that crap!

Some Ausie surplus i bought a while back was boxer primed. Check it one at a time. You may salvage a few.

Also, I keep some berdan primed cases around for making things and using to calibrate tools like my Giruad trimmer.

I would buy some berdan primers first before messing with it, I hear they are not easily available.

Most guys will scrap the berdan primed stuff, but it is possible to reload them if you're willing to get the proper tool to decap them and the correct primers. RCBS makes a berdan decapper that basically rips the primer out. That takes extra time versus just running a boxer primed case thru the sizing die and having the decapping pin on the die knock the spent primer out. It can be done, but so far isn't worth the added hassle to most.

I need to look into that stuff.
I have about 10k LC 30-06 shells in a big can in my garage.
I'd love to stuff them up and shoot 'em.

I would save the berdan brass for the dark days ahead when brass becomes a controlled item. +1 on some of the Aussie brass being boxer primed. I have some AFF 91 brass which is boxer.

                          According to Dixie Gun Works

You can decap a berdan primed shell by filling it with water, using a wooden puch that fits the neck tightly and an hole in your workbench or anvil orsomething to support the base yet leavethe primer free to pop out.
