Need some pointers on Reloading

Hello,

I want to start Reloading my own ammo, just for plinking around at the range no match ammo or anything like that, i just purchased most of my equipment last week i just need a few more things then im ready, I have a pretty basic set up with a single stage press
I want to start with reloading 9mm then move on from there, I bought the things I need, I just didn't want to sped all my money then decide its not for me, 'll be on STAYcation at the end of the month for two weeks and have more time in hand,

Can anyone show me some pointers and how things works and will learn a few tricks from you, i read the Lee modern reloading book but I'm hands on learner and Fast leaner, will bring your favorite beer or wine? In trade for the experience (Of course not during reloading)

off the top of my head... a set of calipers, tumbler to clean brass, media... not sure if im missing anything else.

If u were closer I would help the best I could. I'm guessing you already have brass, small pistol primers and powder. If not I would look for brass on the marketplace on here.

As far as bullets, you have many different choices, you can use lead (if you shoot indoors they might not allow the use of exposed lead rounds). There are also copper plated, FMJ, and hornady's XTP bullets. I use copper plated because my range doesn't allow exposed lead.

A good scale is the cornerstone to a good reloading setup. My first scale was bought on eBay for 20 bucks.

You are also going to need some sort of case lube. Choices range from Hornady one shot, aresol spray. Dillon Case lube. RCBS case lube (this is what I use and really like it).

If you are not using carbine dies I agree on the case lube.

If you are buying a scale just to setup the throw on your powder measure, I prefer going with an old school analog scale, unless you can afford a quality digital. After I setup the throw on the measure I generally trust it, but I do spot check it every once in a while.

Get a powder dispenser like a Uniflow or something similar. It is one of those luxuries that will speed up the process and make reloading much much more enjoyable. Using those lee dippers will take forever.

I'd come help but I only load for rifle so not sure how much advise I could give for pistol

I also suggest an analog scale, specifically a beam scale. Among the better bangs for your buck is the Ohaus-manufactured Dillon Eliminator.

Everything else looks fine. That setup will load you plenty of rounds with just very basic care.

If you look to a powder measure later on, I'd suggest Lee's Pro Auto-Disk Powder Measure. With most powders like Bullseye, W231, 2400, and H110/W296, it dispenses to within 0.1gr every time. Uber-flaky powders like Unique, not so much, but that's true of most powder measures when doing small charges of such powders.

Calipers, scale, tumbler/media and u should be good to go. I also like using Hornady One Shot case lube for pistol brass.

My 9mm loads use W231 and Winchester primers and work great.

I'll 2nd the Hornady one shot. I use carbide dies but still use one shot and it makes things run smoother.

You need a bullet puller.

Beam scale, check weights, calipers and I'd suggest get a Lee Perfect Powder Measure for 20 bucks it throws charges pretty accurate. like .1-.2 grain accurate. Or spend more and get a RCBS or Hornady.

I am a little ways away from you near Modesto in the valley. I would be happy to help you out and share some things I have learned over the years. I have 3 single stage presses and 2 Dillon 650's. Been loading for many years and started when I was in grammer school. Load for over 35 different cartridges 204Ruger to 50BMG. PM me if you want/need help etc.
