    .308 Load - Primer Question

Does anyone have any recommendations on which primers to use for .308 accuracy loads?

Im not sure what generally provides the best results...

I will be using BL-C2 and H4895 powders...

I was thinking of trying some CCI #200 primers (Standard Large Rifle)...

Does anyone use Small Rifle Magnium primers depending on the powder they use?

To use small rifle primers you have to use Lapua Palma brass. It's the only .308 brass with small primer pockets that I know of.

Remington made small primer .308 cases meant for necking down to other calibers during the early 80s.

OP, I use Wolf SRMs with Varget. It yielded best precision and chrono numbers. For the large primer cases, I use BR2s with Varget and 4064.

I loaded some .260 rounds last month using non match fed 210s and got SD of 3 and ES of 9. Maybe it was a fluke but you never know. Get your neck tension consistant, uniform pockets and deburr flash holes first, then try different primers. Some people say wolf primers are very consistant.

I used large federal magnum match primer before before I got the cci br2's.

I use regular CCI #200 or Federal 210 (non benchrest). Both shoot great. Never used the benchrest primers.

mag primer does nothing in terms of accuracy. I found it actually hurts it with certain loads. Cant tell much difference between Fed 210, 210M and WLR. Wolf LR gives me the least ES, SD and probably the most consistent accurate groups but had a dead primer within 200 rounds. 2nd dead primer in my 100s of K reloads of all calibers (first was a WLR a few years back). I've been wanting to try CCI BR2 but never gotten around to it.

My 308 bolt guns are capable of shooting under 1/2MOA groups consistently with good loads and under good conditions.

I had to get either CCI #200(LR) or CCI#250(LRM)...

                        I just got 1k of CCI #200...

Ill be testing out Varget, H4895, and BL-C2 for my .308 loads.

I was just worried about CCI #200 having a hard time with ball powders...

Varget and WW primers here...shoots better than I can. 42.5g behind a 175 Nosler or 168g SMK with LC 7.62 GI match brass.

I use regular cci 200 and winchester westerns behind 44.5gr of BL-C2 without issue. Actually shot the best group of my life with that load .265 @ 100yds.

With a ball powder I would go with WLP. I've read that Winchesters are a little hotter than most primers.
