what is your desired purpose for the round.
being that you are using a expensive bullet I say use a nicer powder too.
I have very limited 308 experience but varget is liked by almost allI will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong. -
For .308, I'd start with Varget, which is ideal for this cartridge. 748 and BL-C(2)--or its military variant, WC846--would be my next choices."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

My two favorite powders for 308 is Varget and IMR 4064.
Having said that, I gave some AR Comp a try and had the smallest SD's of any powder I have ever shot. I inadvertently was testing the powder with some defective bullets, so I was really chasing my tail trying to get groups, but I think the powder has real potential. I think a modern powder designed for 5.56 and .308 WIN AR platforms has to be a good match for your application, it also meters better than my favorites listed above.Last edited by Bill Steele; 09-30-2012, 10:25 PM.When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

I was just talking to a friend about his 308 and he swears that Vihtavuori N135 is the best powder ever in his 20in bolt action. He says he is shooting 1 MOA.
I know you aren't running bolt but it might be something to play withI will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

I've heard an old M1A match load of 168SMK over 41.4 IMR4064 with a Federal LR primer from some old timer Service Match shooters. Tried it in my bolt gun with excellent accuracy results but never in my gas guns.
My AR-10T load was 43.0 Varget behind Nosler or SMK 168 and WLR. Less than MOA average for 4 groups of 5-shot each. More fine tuning may shoot ever better... haven't the time.

i have an OBR use the 155gr SMK Palma with 45.7gr of RL15 --shoots very close to 1/2 MOAComment
