    Reloading handbook recommendations

Hey all, recently been getting interested in the whole idea of reloading. I read the 101 in this section and was wondering if one of the books listed may be easier for a beginner to follow/understand and if a new or a older version matters?
    Thanks for you input

The ABC's of reloading is a good intro, but not much of a load manual. Lyman, hornady, and lee all have good tutorials.

I think that the Sierra Manual is an excellent book. It has a very comprehensive section on the "how" part as well as all the ballistics stuff that makes no sense when you first start.

I have a Sierra, Hornady, & Nosler. I also have the reference pamphlets from Alliant, Winchester & Hodgdon.

I picked them all based on the bullets & powders I use most. I have access to the Lapua & Vhita Vouri manuals if I need them.

Go to some old book stores and see if they have any reloading manuals. The old ones are often better with the basics than the new ones. The new ones simply carry loads for some of the newest powders--but they leave out so many of the older powders that may actually be better.
          Lyman #49 or #48.
          Hornady 8th or 7th.
Lee #2, particularly if you use Lee equipment or need loads for frangible or all-copper bullets.
          Any of the Sierra.
Any by the bullet manufacturer you like.

Hands down the Lyman book and your choice of edition would be my first choice. I have loaded many years and bought the ABC's of reloading. I wasted my money.

But would you have wasted your money if you knew nothing about reloading rather than had many years of reloading under your belt?

After about a year of reloading and reading countless hours of stuff online, I spent about 45 minutes skimming through the "ABC's of Reloading" and didn't learn much new stuff, but just about everything I had already learned was in that book.

Also "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee is quite informative. but you have to wear "Lee filter" glasses to sift through the promotions of his products and pick out the important facts.

Most other "loading manuals" are about 90% data and less than 10% instruction. Nowadays, just about everything you need to know in terms of load data is online when it comes to "safe loads" (just because it's on a website doesn't mean it's safe, but most data put out by powder companies are safe).
