broke out the LEE Classic Loader

I had a friend over that is interested in Reloading rifle round for his Enfield and I was showing him my Lee Classic turret press and how it is nice because it can be used as a single stage as well as Turret press. He was asking about price and I mentioned that if he is going to shoot from a bolt action that he could start with the LEE CLASSIC LOADER. I have 3 of them for pistol but I also have one for 308 winchester that I aquired with a bunch of reloading stuff that had to be 30 years old at least. Well, we loaded a dummy round with a spent primer and had a great time. It has been a while since I used one, but I can really see why I started with a $30.00 loader instead of going straight to a press. Granted I would never kid anyone and say that the Classic Loader is all they will ever use because everyone eventually gets a press, but for $30.00 you can't beat it for loading bolt action rifle rounds and for learning the basics of reloading.

it would be insane to use one for an autoloader (i had one in 30 carbine and it would take me a couple hours to load enough to last about 2 minutes at the range

Because it neck sizes only it is meant for Bolt action rifles only. Richard Lee loads a complete round in just over 30 seconds, granted it would take longer at a sustained pace. If all you had was about $100.00 total to start with you could get everything including component to load almost 200 rounds if you used your own brass which you would need to anyways.

Yay, I though you where talking about rifles. I started with one in 45ACP and loved it. It was nice getting into the hobby and not worrying about making enough ammo to justify spending a couple hundred bucks on equipment. once I realized that I would be shooting alot more with the money I would be saving I spent the bigger bucks on a LEE Classic Turret Press and have never looked back. I'm not a doomsday enthusiest but if it ever goes down and my family has to hit the woods I will definately have my Lee classic loader for the pistol and rifle that goes with me.
