    9x19 favorite recipes?

Hello, recently purchased a new Sig P226r in 9mm, while I know next to nothing about reloading, my friend however, does. We're starting to put together some load development data for IDPA and USPSA/IPSC matches. Does anyone have a recipe willing to share that you love the most? We're starting small, just 3 different batches of 100, in 115gr RN, 124gr RN, and 147gr RN, and then moving on to which powders, etc and chrono.

I use 115gr over 231 powder strictly for cost purposes. But 147gr are noticeably softer shooting if you're not going for most economical

So far, we've decided to try a total of 12 different loads, 4 different loads in 115gr copper plated RN, a) 4gr of bullseye under 115gr
            B) 4.5gr of bullseye under 115gr
            C) 6gr of power pistol under 115g
And D) 6.5gr if power pistol under 115gr.
Haven't started in on the 124gr and 147gr load outs yet

Are you trying to make major? It will be hard to do with the lighter bullets. Longshot powder in the 9mm shoots pretty sweet. Gives you great speed.

Yeah I'd like to stay in major if I can.

Major is no joke. A small mistake can lead to a kaboom.
Like mentioned above, it's easier to make major with 124gr bullets.

And I'm not 100% positive that you can push plated bullets to major. I think the plating will separate. I certainly wouldn't try it.

Oh wow, thanks. So what would you say is the max safe velocity for plated 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr bullets?

They use to advertise to keep them under 1200fps I believe. But nowadays the plating process is so much better that I think you can push them a little faster but I'm really not sure. Just contact who ever you bought them from and ask. They should know.

Also you should head over to Brian Enos' forum for major data. Not too many major loaders on this forum.

So you want to make major? You're shooting in open division in USPSA? If you're not shooting in open, then why do you need to make major? You'll be scored minor with anything less than .40 in Limited, and there is no major pf in production.

Oh, I was under the impression that if you make major, any shots outside of the bullseye aren't penalized as much.

Unless you're shooting in USPSA Open division, you can't be scored Major using 9mm. Like said above, 9 Major is no joke. It usually takes 2-3gr over max to get there with powders like HS-6 & Silhouette.
