Morning! I just purchased my first. 45 1911. I'm curious to know what a fair price for. 45 acp reloads (500ct) should run. Also looking for a local supplier in the San Fernando/Santa Clarita areas...

I've used LAX ammo in the past for 9mm and 45ACP, worked well. http://laxrange.com/lax-ammunition-reloads-factory-new/
What's a fair price? Check out other online resources for bulk ammo, or places like this http://www.freedommunitions.com/product-p/fm45f230r.htm -
check out bullet man. his ammo is top notch. bought from him many times before i started reloading myself.

Buying ammo for a .45? People still do that?
The only time I bought commercial reloads was from a local source that would make ammo to your specifications and I hadn't got my reloading equipment set up yet. So, I would say to search the 'net for a local loader--saves shipping and you can talk the them.
All I would say is if you want to get the most out of your gun, don't feed it milsurp, Berdan primed, steel cases, or even aluminum cases.
Pick up your cases and save them to re-sell or trade.Comment

shooting private reloads can be dangerous yes, but factory reloads, especially serge's;bullet man; are just fine. his factory stuff is cleaner and more reliable than not only winchester white box, but also some of the higher end stuff. if you dont have the equipment to reload, using factory reloads is the cheapest way to punch paper.sigpicComment

When I was shooting factory ammo I never had a bad round but I had a few with a box of gun show reloads. The bullet was incorrectly seated and made the round defective. Since then I started reloading and I only shoot my own.shooting private reloads can be dangerous yes, but factory reloads, especially serge's;bullet man; are just fine. his factory stuff is cleaner and more reliable than not only winchester white box, but also some of the higher end stuff. if you dont have the equipment to reload, using factory reloads is the cheapest way to punch paper.Originally posted by barrageThat's because Excelsior threads are like toilet bowls. Agreed with the suggestion to start reloading, especially for .45 ACP; you can not only make better ammo than factory, you can save a nice chunk of coin by doing so. 1911's are very friendly to cast bullets, BTW."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

+1 on serge's ammo - based on all the great reviews on this site, I decided to try out several hundred rounds of both the .380 and .45 acp from him and they are top notch - burns clean and the .45 acp seems very accurate up to 50 yds. I like his ammo so much (Burns much cleaner than Winchester and the loads seem very consistent) I'm getting a thousand rounds of .45, 500 rounds of .380 and a thousand rounds of 9mm (just picked up a Beretta 92) from him this week. Great guy to do business with as well!shooting private reloads can be dangerous yes, but factory reloads, especially serge's;bullet man; are just fine. his factory stuff is cleaner and more reliable than not only winchester white box, but also some of the higher end stuff. if you dont have the equipment to reload, using factory reloads is the cheapest way to punch paper.
I looked into reloading .45 acp as well, but the range I frequent doesn't allow lead cast bullets, so to reload the cost of each round would be about .24 cents (That's with saving the brass - the cheapest I've been able to find FMJ projectiles are .18 a round ) . From Serge it's .30 a round, so reloading would only save me about $6/100 rounds....Comment

Load your own, that would be your best bet. You'll pick up a hobby with in a hobby.sigpic"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
