    223 load using BL-C(2)

    I'm just starting to load 223 for my ar. I'm using 55gr fmj and I'm putting blc2 behind them. Just wondering if anyone has a good recipe or any experience running that combo through their ar.

    25.5 grains, under a 55 grain LC FMJ w/c, seat and crimp at the canelure...wolf/tula .223 primers, and LC or PMC commercial brass. LC version shoots around 1.25 MOA with a non-free-float handguard.

    This is a starting load, and for my purposes, I don't see any need to go higher.

    Burns fairly clean, cycles perfectly (provided I don't use the velcro-attached mesh brass catcher). Brass lasts 5-8 loads before split necks start happening. PMC about 5 loads, LC about 8.

    BLC-2 Meters like water.

      I didn't chrono my loads initially, but I put 26 grains BL-C(2) behind a 55g FMJBT bullet primed with CCI small rifle. It cycled my gun well so I decided to stick with that and mass produce about 1500 rounds. So far my gun has run flawlessly through 500 of those rounds. When chrono'd I was running about 2850 FPS average out of a 16" barrel, didn't get any MOA measurements at 100 yards, but it was accurate. I get a very slight hint of primer flattening on some primers at that load (max is 26.1 per one of my manuals, but seems conservative). I recently stocked up on Tula magnum small rifle primers and am curious if the slight primer flattening is a CCI primer issue or a pressure issue since I am not running very hot loads.

      YMMV

        I use BL-C2... that’s the powder I use for my .223 match rounds, but I usually use it for the heavier bullets.

        I usually load 68gr Hornady Match and 77gr SMK, excellent accuracy.

        This is the loads I have made up using BL-C2 and a 55gr Z-Max (Same as their V-Max bullet)

        Case Type / Caliber= .225 / LC Nato Brass
        Trimmed Case length= 1.745
        Powder Type = BL-C2
        Powder Charge = 26.3gr
        Primer = CCI #41
        Projectile = 55gr Hornady Z-Max #22274
        C.O.A.L. = 2.220
        Crimp = Yes, Light (Lee FCD)
        Barrel & TwistRate = 24" 416 Stainless BB / 1:8
        Firearm = AR-15

        Disclaimer: NEVER use anyone’s load data without working up a load yourself from the min. load. This works for me, it may not work for you.

        Take good notes; use the above as an example when talking about your load data.
