San Jose Reloaders - Where do you chrono at?

Hey guys, I just got my first 100 or so 9mm reloads under my belt and successfully emptied them at the indoor range today. Everything went well, but now I'm naturally curious as to how my reloads are performing.

Where do you guys go to setup a chronograph and test your rounds? I mainly shoot at Reeds but I've never seen anyone there with a chrono before. Do people even do this indoors? Or is this done in outdoor ranges only?

    Thanks!

I think it would be hard to pull off at a public indoor range, at least during regular business hours.

I have setup a chrony at a private indoor range; most chrony's require additional lights to work properly indoors. I was the only guy there, so it was pretty straight forward. Cease-fire was me putting the gun down.

I did run my new Magnetospeed chrony at a public indoor range recently, it worked great. Unfortunately, at least until someone comes up with a rest/rail mount setup for the Magnetospeed, it is a rifle/shotgun/revolver proposition.

I would think the measure of how well your reloads are doing would be where the holes are located on the target.

I think Reed's might let you. I've seen some guys use it during MNSL.

I chrono up at Richmond, They have a dedicated chrono bay. Needs to be used with an RO present. Chrono needs to be shaded if in direct sunlight for consistent readings. About a year ago I asked if I could chrono at Reeds, and they said NO

My dad has no issues at Metcafe. Both pistol and rifle sides.

Have also seen a few others out there with chrono's too.

Thanks guys, looks like Metcalf and Los Altos it is. I guess the next question becomes: any suggestions for a reasonably priced chrono?

                      Sunnyvale Rod and Gun also.

Chrony Alpha works. I don't necessarily like the multi-piece posts and white plastic contrast strips; you have to be careful or it'll fall apart just as you're setting it up and then you rush to not hold up people!
One time I rushed setting it up and it was too far to one side. While I did move my point of aim off the bench, somehow I managed to shoot one of the posts!!! Not a big deal but I'm going to make things a little more sturdy the next time around so it doesn't come apart as easily.

^ + 2 on Sunnyvale. If you're in Mountain View, Sunnyvale is closer by a few miles.

Unfortunately, Reed's is not likely to let you chrono because you need to go forward of the firing line to set it up, and as they don't have cease fires, there's no real way that you're going to be able to get up front to do it.

Actually, that's not "quite" true. I believe I called them once (about a year ago) and the answer I got was if I come early in the morning during the weekday (not weekend), they would allow me to. I get the feeling you go on their non-busiest day (Monday?) as the doors open for business, it can be done. I'm not clear if THEY set it up or if I'm allowed to, but the point is, I believe it's do-able so long as you call them and let them know which day you want to do the chrono. Don't take this as gospel; call them first and ask.
