Lyman 1200 DPS 3 issues!!!

Ok, so I bought a Lyman 1200 DPS 3 autoloader and I am having nothing but issues with it. I am loading right now and the darn thing won't throw consistent loads. I am loading 44gr of Varget and out of the 40+ loads thus far, I have only got 12 with the right weight. I have zeroed it out many times to try and fix it with no luck. It averages .3 grains over thrown, with the high being .8 grains.

I let it warm up for 30 minutes and have had it on for over 4 hours now and it won't throw the right load.

Does anyone have one of these powder dispensers and if so have you experienced the same problems.

Varget is a difficult powder to throw volumetric-ally. Best to throw short and trickle the loads in to spec.

Mine works great unless I turn on an old fan. No it's not the air flow, it's an electronic/electromagnetic thing.

Some fluorescent lights cause problems too.

Just like Rock said. Some lights or fans will get it out of zero. I have heard that Lyman has a fix for this if you send it in. Try to get in touch with them.

The Lyman 1200 is a combo trickled & scale, it throws by weight, not volume


OP - I haven't used the 1200 but I did load for quite a while with a 1500 and I totally agree with the fan/fluorescent light issue. I had to change out all of the CFL bulbs in my reloading room to get the darn thing to hold a steady zero. Good luck!

Air movement will also cause it to be off. The first time you use it you are suppose to let it warm up and stablize for 24hours or if it has been out of service for awhile. Place scale on solid serface with no vibrations. No cell phones near it.Check for stray grains of powder under the platform will also do it.

Mine works fine except it has a habbit of giving me .1gr too much powder. If it is important I just set it for .1gr less than I want.

I haven't used the lyman 1200 but I have done thousands on my Chargemaster 1500

when I use any of the fine pistol powders from Accurate or some stick powders I have a lot of problems with over throws

is it possible to try the straw trick on a lyman 1200?

I had the DPS 2 and it went t.u. after about 18 months. The scale is a pathetic design since it uses only a single bridge rectifier circuit. So there's a bunch of software "massaging" to give the illusion of accuracy and precision.

The 60Hz bulb is the solution, not the problem. It's the fluorescent lighting with it's high-frequency circuits that is said to cause the interference.

I had one, and I never did get a consistent load from it. I learned it was Lyman 1200 QA issue. My buddy had one, same issue. He returned it for another which worked fine.

I had two lyman scales, both were a POS that would never hold zero. My suggestion is to return it and get a rcbs, works like a champ everytime and holds within 0.1g
