We had a discussion here about this last month & I lost the thread. Oh Well!
I finally got around to trying some & I'm excited with the results!
Due to a Shoulder Impingement, I have not shot any of my 30 caliber rifles since the end of April. So after reading about Trail Boss here, I decided to try it.
Still wearing a Shoulder pad, regardless.
I started at my calculated minimum load each for 30-06 & 308.
308 cal, 9.1 gr., 937fps, Savage 10, Recoil felt like a AR15!
30-06 cal., 13.5 gr., 1250 fps, M1903A3 Recoil felt less than an AK!
I set a target @ 100 yds. Both rifles shot good elevation.
@ 200 yds the 308 was about 8 ft low
@ 200 yds the 30-06 was about 5 ft low
I have the Savage 10 to shoot High Power Sihlouettes @ 200 yds, So I will make up a couple more loads to test for recoil tolerance. Choose the one I like best & resight the scope back in.
Now the 1903A3 or my M1917, I would like to continue shooting the Military Sihlouette match's in Sac. Shooting out to 500 yds, I think this load will be a little trickier to perfect & figure out the sight adjustments, but I'm willing to accept the Challenge!
I also ordered 4 lbs of Trail Boss through my local Club.
I'll find out the price when it arrives, but I have never seen powder on the shelf anywhere cheaper than at USI in Concord. Members Prices are 5% over cost.
Also noted while I was shooting the 308, I was in a lane close to the Dividing Wll at the range. The quasi-subsonic rounds made a neat buzzing noise!
