Using powder from pulled bullets when it is labeled... still a no-no?

Well if you read my other thread you saw that I am pulling around 90 rounds of someone else's reloads. They were in four generic boxes designed for a reloader (where you can put recipe info on the box). Anyways on two of the boxes it says the powder used was IMR 4064. The other two don't specify. This is ALOT of powder to just throw out...

What is the consensus on using powder if you are 95% sure you know what it is? I could always just use it in a lower powered load? Or I could toss it... just hard to toss out 80 rounds worth of powder.

Is the powder worth more than your gun? 90rds x 44grs = 3960grs just over a half pound. ~$10.

I don't even re-use the powder from my OWN pulled boolits.

        Toss the stuff and fuggetaboutit.

Its all about minimizing risk and if you feel comfortable, have at it. I have met people who wont touch reloads and I have met people that will actually shoot ammo they pick up off the range.

I wouldn't use it, you never know it could be labeled that but be something quite different

IMR 4064 is my favorite rifle powder when I load 308. It is equally great in .30-06 (micro Lincoln Logs of accuracy, when loaded hot).

As others have pointed out, the value proposition is really asymmetrical.
When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."

I've only ever used varget in .308, so if I pull .308 I know where it goes. Most everything else gets tossed

It depends.. if they are labeled and you know what went into them, I don't see the issue with re-using your own powder.. if you know that is what is in them, what is the harm? This of course only works if you label very well and keep good records.. it also works when buying mil surplus "pull down" powder.. the .mil is pretty good about lot #'s and what goes into a load. I've picked up pull down powder that loaded just fine.
