    9MM load for targets/practice?

    ..any suggestions on bullets and powder weight? Gonna shoot through a PPQ and a Taurus Millinium Pro 9mm..want these light so my wife does not freak out or say she hates her new carry gun..got to get her used to it before I chamber the factory personal defense rounds.

    I was thinking 115 Gr LRN with some unique or bullseye? 900 FPS or lower..

    Thanks.

    I shoot a plated 124gr at ~950fps with 3.5grs of 700x. Pretty soft shooting out of a glock.

      try 147gn the heavier bullet causes recoil to be more "pushey" and less "snappy" makeing it seem like there is less recoil.

      if you are realy stuck on the 115gn (maybe you have 3k under your bench) try a minimum load needed to cycle of trail boss
      I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

        I agree with the above posts on going heavier bullets for lighter recoil. WST is a wonderful powder for powderpuff loads. I loaded my wife's 9mm loads with this powder when she started learning her subcompact. It allowed her to focus on learning the gun without learning a flinch.

          Very soft, no leading, match grade accurate.

              You might need to go with a heavier bullet than a 115gr. Under 900fps out of a 9mm is pretty damn slow.

                My loads (and check them with a manual!! Don't trust the internet blindly!)

                For my CZ75s;

                115 gn RN (plated or fmj) with 4.6 gn Win 231
                124 gn RN (fmj) with 4.3 gn Win231

                The 124 recipe above is very good, it's my competition load (that doesn't say much really).

                I'm trying out some 147 TC lead bullets now, but if they suck, I'll go back to the 124s.

                  FWIW I prefer light recoil. I like WSF much more than Bullseye. Actually, I can't stand Bullseye. I just don't think it's comfortable to shoot.

                    THIS ^^^^ if you want the lightest recoiling round, use a 147gr. I use Win 231 powder. Very clean and meters very well (never off by more than .1 in my dillon). Precision Delta is the cheapest if you a 147gr FMJ bullet ($101 shipped/ per 1000). I'm not sure about lead and plated though but they are a little cheaper.

                      Berry's plated 147gr are wonderful, with 4.5gr of Unique. However, I chrono'd these at ~980, and they hit solid on falling plates, much more solid hits than than 115gr, or even 124gr bullets. I didn't break out the chrono until I got to the 4.5gr loads though.

                        Lots of good information..what I can decipher is that 147 grain is best..I plan on using lead or moly coated..I should use 231 or WSF..and around 4 grains? Seem like a good starting point?

                        I appreciate the response.

                          For 231, that seems too high for lead. I'd start around 3.5 and you'll probably end up close to 4 for a good target load....Remember you cannot pust lead as fast as FMJ's

                            Look into bear creek 147gn molly FP. I haven't used this particular bullet but I have used thousands of there 45 bullets and love them.

                              First off, I'm a newbie too, literally just did my first batch. But it worked pretty well for me. But if you've got a few thousand of the 115grain's like I've got you might want to try this;

                              Berrys 115 Grain TMJ RN
                              Winchester 231 4.5 Grain
                              Winchester Primers
                              OAL 1.143

                              Shot out of my RIA 38 super which was converted to a 9mm
                              Felt like a .22 very easy to shoot.
