It looks like a training round
They sell or use to sell pistol brass to be primed with a shotgun primer
The projectile was either a wax bullet or a plastic bullet

Some you primed with magnum primers

Great for shooting rats in the head when they popped out of a hole or indoor/ garage target practice

For obvious reasons, they never took off in the way SIMS took off

All wrong answers...I think. It looks to me like a lead 38spl Hydra-Shok. I HAD a box of 100 that I think were made by Speer a long time ago. I tested one in a wet LA Yellow Page phone book and it opened up like a umbrella.Went about 1100 pages and stopped. I also shot a water bed with one out of my S&W 60. Long story...it also did not over penetrate.Nice rounds for a snubby cause you can load the warm and they open up real nice. Nice find.

It has something like pin sticking up in the cavity. Base is very slightly concave.

Will measure and weigh it tomorrow to see if it is indeed a 38 cal bullet. (it was in a box of 38/357mag/357max dies so it may 'just' be a bullet)

Just an FYI...Did a little more research and it is what I thought it to be. Its a 38spl. wadcutter lead bullet. Alberts made some for reloading and Hydra-Shok made loaded rounds with these with their name stamped on the case base. After Federal bought them out they were the go to rounds in the 70-80's. Google has some history on these early rounds.How many do you have? I am interested in them if you have a good quanity.
