1st squib experience

I just had my 1st squib. It was in my .30-30 rifle. I am lucky the next round wouldn't fully load otherwise I would have had a bad day. I didn't hear any bang probably because my friends were shooting next to me. I just thought I accidentally grabbed one of my fired cases from my ammo box.But after looking into it, I found I didn't put powder in the case apparently. I am surprised because I always check with a light each cases powder level in the loading block. Apparently I must have gotten distracted. I can assure you, I will never assume I grabbed a used round again! Thank god for small miracles!

Glad it didn't end badly. That's one of my fears about reloads. Good wake up call.

Absolutely. I never worried about it until now. Always thought I double checked everything. Definately a good reminder to pay better attention.

I had some 9mm reloads passed down to me, that were passed down to him by a neighbor YEARS ago, circa '87, and had a squib, second from the last cartridge I had left, was the squib. Luckily I brought a small hammer, and had a stick on the range that was perfect. I only suffered from "downtime". I now carry dowels in the range-bin.

Also had a squib shooting wwb. Have to keep an eye on this type of ammo

This is why I am so reluctant to let buddies have reloads for anything other than long range shooting, the liability is incredible. Can you imagine a buddy rapping off 10 rounds with a squib in the middle? Ouch...

knock on wood but I am yet to have a squib after over 10,000 rounds and very thankful about it.

here is my question, will a semi auto ever cycle with a squib, I defiantly see more danger in a revolver or if someone was to try to quickly clear a jam "tap, rack" and not try to diagnose the problem.

but it seams like if I were shooting say, a 1911, it would almost be a safety stop

I was trying to make minimum recoil loads for my 1911 with Trail Boss

my lowest test loads did not cycle the slide and the projectile was moving with enough velocity to harm

so wouldn't logic say that a projectile that doesn't have enough velocity to leave the barrel (there by moving even slower than minimum loads) cycle the slide even less which is still not a complete cycle

these are just things from the logic in my head but there could easily be a factor I am missing
