Plated 10mm

Friend of mine gave me about 50 plated 180 grain 10mm bullets to try out. From what I have read Mid range fmj data should work as load data.

I was thinking of 9 grains blue dot to start.


Any thoughts?

I have not had good luck with light Blue Dot loads. My minimum for BD in 180gr 10mm is 10.4grains. For me, Blue Dot has always worked best the harder I push it. I think for plated blasting ammo, I would probably load something like 8grs of Unique or 7grs of WSF.

I think any plated bullet should be able to take up to 1200fps. As you go faster than that, whose bullet you are loading seems to matter (i.e. Berry's 1200 and below, Xtreme higher, etc.).

My Speer data shows 180FMJ with Blue Dot Min. 10gr (1105fps) - Max. 11gr (1295fps)

Hornady shows min 7.5 max 10.7. From what I have been reading a mid load for the FMJ is a good place to start for the plated bullets of the same weight...
