Well, I've been browsing the forums here quite a bit.... but finally decided to join.
I recently fired off my first batch of reloads without any issues. I'm using 115 grain FMJ from Remington, Winchester SPP and Alliant Bullseye. I loaded some with 3.9 grains of Bullseye since it's a relatively quick burning powder. I also loaded some with 4.1 and 4.3 grains as well. The sweet spot seems to be at 4.3 grains for a Glock 17. My OAL is fairly long compared to most at 1.145.
The batch with 3.9 grains of powder wasn't strong enough because the slide wasn't racking back enough to chamber the next round. 4.1 grains still saw the issue, but not as much. 4.1 grains seemed perfect, and all 150 rounds of the 4.3 fired flawlessly.
I'm using a Lee classic turret. I'm super happy with it, granted I've only loaded a few hundred rounds so far. The safety prime does take some getting use to though. When I first looked into reloading I was hooked onto the Dillon 650 simply because it's amazingly cool. However, as a beginner I decided that a turret was the best route to go since it is only one round at a time. Single stage just looked to be way to slow for my pace.
One question for all you folks though. When I compared my rounds to factory WWB, I noticed that I have a lot of muzzle flash, while the WWB has almost none in normal indoor lighting. I've checked for any signs of high pressure from a hot charge but there aren't any. I'm aware that factory powder is much more refined to reduce muzzle flash, but is it anything to be worried about?
Also, what are some good reloading suppliers? I've seen so many names thrown around that it's difficult to choose. I'm just looking for supplies for target practice. I purchased my primers and powder from Fowler's simply because they were the only ones who had small pistol primers and bullseye in stock. I would however like to purchase bullets online. I'm looking at buying 115 FMJ from Precision Delta since the price is great. Any thoughts?
Finally, I just want to say thank you to this forum and all its members. It's made my journey into reloading an informative and safe one!
