Bullseye & Unique in .45acp...

I've been working up some loads using both powders with some 230gr LRN moly coated bullets, I've noticed that the unique loads produce a lot more leading in my barrel than the bullseye loads, is this typical for unique? The unique load was 5.3-5.4 grs and the bullseye was 4.1-4.2grs

Unique is a lot slower than BE. If the powder doesn't have enough burn to cause the bullet to form to the barrel then gases will escape past the bullet causing leading.

It's typical for faster powders to quickly burn causing the bullet to form to the barrel early on preventing leading. The slower burning Unique is not forcing the bullet to form to the barrel letting gases escape past the bullet and causing leading.

To fix your problem you can either try to up the Unique charge or buy larger diameter bullets.

these bullets are of .452 I believe. I shall up the load and try again. Thanks!

M1A1 keep in mind that Unique likes to be loaded mid to max level. Unique will give you a higher velocity.

or try the Brear Creek hollow base 200gr round nose, they work great for me, but I am burning W231 just because it meters so nice.

thanks guys! I made a test batch using the next lee auto disc setting, 6.0grs of Unique. I'll test fire and see how they run.

6.0 grains unique 230grain plated.
6.6 grains unique 200grain lead round nose flat points
These are my go to loads with unique.
I tried using less powder but the loads burned dirty and lead fouling was bad.

Ok I tried out a new batch with progressively hotter loads and I got no high pressure signs up to and including max loads. However, the leading got WORSE with the unique as the powder charge was increased...So I guess the problem is with the bullets.

I run 5grs of Bullseye in all my lead .45ACP loads (200gr LSWC-230gr LRN), works great. I think Bullseye and .45ACP were meant for each other.

^^^^ exactly what I use too. I have been using that load exclusively for the last 3 years with no problems, using 200gr LSWC.

Same load I use. But I only use 4.5gr of Bullseye.

I use 6 grains Bullseye with a 180 grain bullet. It works awesome.

I'm curious what gun you are using that load in.

Since that is somewhat faster than 460 Rowland I suspect that you may have meant a different number somewhere.
