You know all the "holy war" threads of "my press is better" that we've had here on CalGuns and that appear on other places? It goes to show, generally speaking, it ain't the arrow, it's the Indian. If the human being doesn't do things right, bad things can and eventually will result. Like this.

Someone did the same thing a few years back with a S&W Model 629. I believe it was 20+ grains of Bullseye instead of 2400. The topstrap was gone, the two chambers to either side of the double-charged round were blown apart as well, and IIRC, the fingers got blasted with some shards. Not fun.

Again, glad both shooters were OK.

Is bullseye flakey? My rifle and pistol powders are very different and can't emagine not being able to tell the difference in the cases

They reload to make better ammo than what can be purchased from a store, and more importantly tuned to their rifles.

People don’t always reload to just save money.

While in the beginning most people reload to save money, and you do save money per unit cost. In the end, most reloaders end up shooting more. Also, if your goal is accuracy you end up with match grade bullets (Bergers or SMK's), matching brass, and your chrony. Now your into it more because just any round won't do, it has to be that magic load.

Then there are the endless trips to the range to "test" loads rather than just mindless shooting at zombies dummies. Throw in mindless shooting at zombie dummies and it all adds up. Even reloaders with a bent for perfection gotta bumpfire and shoot mindlessly to live up to the gun owners stereotypes....because as we all know, its just fun.

And yes, occasionally there are mistakes. You mix up 190 grain smk's with 175 grain smk's, or you don't check weigh 300 rounds of 50 Bmg until it's too late and your powder set was too high (or too low), or you load up 200 rounds of 223 before you realize you didn't cam over enough on the sizing die and your 0.002" too long on cases, which cycles fine in a mil spec AR, but not a match bolt rifle.

And occasionally you use the wrong powder and blow off your hand and take out the guys eyes next to you because he isn't wearing real safety glasses. You get sued, lose the house, wife and kids, but you do somehow salvage the dillon 550 and 20,000 primers and brass.

Still, I'd rather reload than bake cookies, sit on the couch watching such mindless stuff as american Idol, or go to walmart and witness first hand the de-evolution of the species. In the time it takes to go into the store and find the sporting goods "expert", get him to unlock the case, pay him, and exit the store you can knock out 300 rounds on a dillon....yes, even with the wrong powder too!!

I've used the wrong powder exactly one time.. luckily it was the other way around.. H335 and Win 540 look a lot alike.. they are both ball powders, are both black, and the grain sizes are similar.. I loaded something like 10 gr of what I thought to be 540 in my 357 magnum brass, seated a 125 HP and was happy with it.. I made up 50 like this. Turns out I was loading 10 gr of H335.. first round stuck in the barrel.. hmm.. wtf? Knock that one out, fire next round.. another stuck bullet.. um, ok, it wasn't just a fluke, there is something seriously wrong here.. Thankfully this was in the days before I had a progressive.. had I loaded these on a dillon, I would have had 400 (or more) of them to take apart..
