    7.62 x 39mm

What is a good price to pay for 7.62 x 39mm ammo per box in So Cal? I went to a range yesterday and they were selling Fiochi ammo for $10.50 / box of 20 rds
Is that a fair price? Where do you get yours and how much per box.?

Thats pretty expensive. The problem is the cheap ammo (which isn't cheap anymore at $.20/rd) has a steel jacket and can't be fired at most ranges. Look for wolf yellow box for ~$6/box.

black box - projectile attracts a magnet (not range legal)
yellow box- (reverse the above statement)

EDIT: one more thing, turners in Reseda as been sold out of wolf yellow box for about 4 months now, i was at that store 3 days ago and they still didn't have any.

A recent email reply from Wolf in regards to the yellow box (non-mag) shortage informed me that they are no longer producing the non bi-metal 7.62 x 39, and have no intentions for future production. Yellow box bye bye.

On a lighter note, a discussion with a Burro Canyon rep at this weekends gunshow revealed that with the recent rain, they are opening up the range to bi-metallic rounds (see:no magnet check!)

                      Yup!

I was just clearing up what yellow box is, what why people say to get it, i forgot to mention that even the yellow box wolf is magnetic these days.

there are quite a few brands of brass cased reloadable x39 bullets out there for $6 per box, buy it. use it, then reload.

Bi-metal jacketed projectiles create sparks when impacting hard objects like rocks. This can and has been demonstrated to start fires. Understandable that they are banned at most ranges here since most of SoCal is a tinderbox during the dry season.
