    300WSM loads

    Hey everyone, just want to see what everyone is shooting out of their 300WSM's, first, heres the specs on the rifle:

    Savage model 16FHLSS 300WSM
    24" factory barrel
    Rifle Basix trigger
    Stockade rollover thumbhole with Stockade bottom metal
    Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 EMDR scope

    shooting was done off of a bipod, heres the loads:

    Win brass
    CCI LRM primers
    Barnes 200gr. LRX
    2.910" oal (.065" from the lands)

    Reloader 19:
    67gr. = 2867fps average, 16 ES, .81 MOA

    Reloader 17:
    64.8gr. = 3015fps average, 7ES, .51 MOA

    Remington Brass
    CCI LRM Primers
    208gr. Hornady A-max
    2.950" OAL

    Reloader 19:
    69gr. = 2884fps average, 20 ES, .61 MOA

    Reloader 17:
    66gr. = 2968fps average, 8 ES, .53 MOA

    Win Brass
    CCI LRM Primers
    230gr. Berger OTM Hybrids
    2.950" OAL
    Reloader 19

    62.2gr. = 2605fps average, 32 ES, .74MOA

    I will be adding to this in the future, I will be picking up some more Reloader 17 to try out with the 230 grainers, as well as some 4000MR to try out as well.

    So, uh, I'm going to assume no one reloads for the 300WSM?

      Sure, but nothing as accurate as what you've got going.

        Haha, I'm sure they can be more accurate, but I'm not capable of shooting less than half MOA yet. I just wanted to start a thread for everyone to share loads. All my loads are very hot, so if anyone wants to try them, a proper load up will be necessary.

          I have loaded for a friend's Remington 700 in .300 WSM. It has a great trigger job and scope/ring combo but still has the tupperware stock. Both H4350 and Rl-17 have given sub moa @100 yds. 63-64 grains seems to be what it likes but we have yet to shoot it at longer ranges.
          As cool as the cartridge is, it is not pleasant to shoot in a light weight rifle.

            Mine's a hunting gun and the load I settled on was

            180 grain Nosler Partition with 64 grains of H4831 for 2955 fps.
            My load data shows 4 groups (three shot) between .4" and .7" at 100 yards.

              I'm going to start reloading for .300WSM - I thought I'd start with IMR4350 and probably 180 gr projectiles- maybe accubond. I'll look at your loads too- thank you

                Id check that crono man, I wasnt getting NEAR those velocities with my tight bore barrel and litterally a FULL case of RL22 with 208gr AMAX. Those are HIGH.

                In my WSM's I allways shot: 4831ssc for my 7wsm with 180gr VLDS, and RL22 with anything else. 300wsm RL22 only. I was getting good velocities in my mind, 2830 with mag lengh in AICS mags.

                  tight bore? I bet it has a short throat too.

                  My 10" revolver shoots several hundred fps faster than a 12" revolver of a different mfg with the same loads. In my case, throat length makes a huge difference.

                  Use a harder bullet? speed drops too.

                  -------------

                  Other factor? You say mag length. I know long range shooters that shoot the wsm single load cause they are WAY too long to fit the mag. Way. And when I was experimenting, we could easily load so they not only didn't fit the mag, but you almost had to pull the bolt to get them to load.

                  I'm pretty sure you know this one already though since you load with a FULL case of RL22. I'm just mentioning it for other folks.

                    The chrony is correct, I also used it to check some factory ammunition, and it checked out. Read Whiterabbit's comment, also, what is the length of your AICS mags? I am using Alpha mags with an internal OAL of 2.985 and loading them as long as I can. In my testing, though, Reloader 17 gave me over 100fps over 22 without pressure signs. The velocities I achieved with Reloader 19 are actually very close to what I got with 22, but 22 didn't give me the accuracy I was looking for, so they weren't mention in my OP.

                    A word or warning, work up to my loads. The 66gr. Load is very hot, I've seen a lot of guys load these with 65gr. of Reloader 17, but not 66gr. I have no doubt that it will be too hot for a lot of people, so proper load up is necessary.
