Lanolin in San Diego

OK fellow San Diego reloaders, Where in town preferably in east county [Santee] can i find pure liquid Lanolin to make case lube with, I'm not haveing any luck so far

Have you tried la mesa collectibles on n magnolia st ? Im not sure if they have it but they do have a nice reloading area

Whole foods up here sometimes carries liquid lanolin.

If you have one close, give them a call and ask for the department that carries all the supplements and beauty items.

Make sure you get 99% isopropyl to mix it with, less water.

Look for anhydrous lanolin. That's the purest form of lanolin.

Anhydrous lanolin sometimes pops up on the cast boolit forum.. the problem with using anhydrous lanolin, is that it is a solid. The more liquid stuff you can sometimes find at whole foods mixes readily with isopropyl alcohol to make up something akin to the Dillon lube.

The anhydrous stuff is better suited mixed with castor oil for a waxy type of lube used in forming jacketed bullets, using in small batches where you put a little on your fingers and lube cases as they go into the die (like imperial sizing wax).

Try your local Walmart and look in the baby section. There is some stuff called lansinoh. Its for mothers that breast feed. From what I found the packaging states "100% LANSINOH BRAND LANOLIN-THE WORLD'S PUREST LANOLIN (ULTRAPURE MEDICAL GRADEM USP MODIFIED)". You can put some on your nipples if they get dried out from reloading.

I ordered a pound of the anhydrous lanolin over a decade ago from the local pharmacy. Back then that pound cost around $30, but it lasts forever and a little goes a long way. I have been using that as an ingredient in "Ed's Red" gun oil and preservative. It works really well and leaves a visually appealing protective thin coat on your guns.

You do have to melt it over a heat gun or small flame to get it to dissolve. I use a long handle spoon.

Now that I know it has an alternate use as a case lube, I'll be using for that too.
