    45ACP Load

I got my first bulk load after testing a few rounds.

    W231
    230 gr plated round nose
4.6 grains as per winchster website
    1.225 OAL
    .470 crimp

I fired 300 rounds yesterday and some rounds are hitting powder on my face.

I dont see this on my 9mm loads. I have read somewhere here related to the reloading process. Is it the crimping? Or bullet seating?

    Thanks

Try moving up a little in your charge weight, you are at start levels, maybe a little more pressure will help with combustion (powders burn faster with more pressure). Hodgdon's max is like 5.3grs for that bullet.

I load 5.2gr of W231 and works great for me. No powder in my face. Accurate and soft using my 1911's.

I had to go all the way up to 5.4 just to get my Sig P220 to cycle... I'm surprised and thrilled to see lighter loads working on 1911s... I want one. lol

Same thing with my P220 except I was working up a load with 185gr flat points. I had to go to 6.0gr of W231 to reliably cycle mine with a 20# spring. I settled at 6.3 of W231 and a 18# spring. Have not worked up any 230gr loads yet, have some 200gr ones made up to try.

I use the same amount with 200 grain wadcutters. Works great in my 1911.

I've also tried 5.0 grains and that worked fine too, but didn't cut those perfectly round punched out holes in targets that I like so much (it left some ragged edges).

Personally, if I was getting powder blast in the face, I would have the gun checked.
Your load may not be what others want, but it is a perfectly good load. 4.3gn is the powder manufacturer's starting load and it works well. No powder blast here.

This is a brand new gun that just passed the 500 non-reload rounds. Non-reloads does not do powder blast. The powder blast does not occur every round but rather a few times among the 300 round reloads.

One other question, what primers are you using?

I am following a thread on another forum where a guy is getting similar results.

Steve, no this was a thread on GT where a guy was maybe having problems with WLP's, obviously not the primers in either case.
