    H335 or BLC2

Can anyone tell me what the practical differences are between the two?

I will be reloading on a progressive with a RCBS powder measure.
    Caliber .223 / 5.56 with bullets ranging from 55gr to 77gr

Which one would be better for match ammo?
Does one meter better than the other?

Not really sure which one I should go with. My local store only have these two options in stock right now.

Traditionally, H335's burn rate has been preferred for .223/5.56, and BL-C(2)'s for .308 Win. You can use either one for either round. BL-C(2) is a little slower than H335.

For match ammo, it really depends on your specific gun, as well as the bullet you use and the attention to detail used during the entire reloading process. Generally, a progressive is geared for volume ammo production at the expense of some precision. That's why single-stages, and some turrets, remain popular for reloading match ammo. There's a fellow I know that gets 1/3 MOA out of his 7mm Rem Mag. He reloads on a Rockchucker and trickles his powder. Another fellow does the same thing with his .300 Win Mag; he reloads on a Classic Turret Press.

I understand the comments you make about match ammo and the process.

My match ammo might not be up to scratch with what others would consider match ammo, but I am just trying to make better than what I regularly shoot, which is Federal 5.56 XM193.

I will be using Hornady A-Max, Match, and SMK bullets in various weights and want to find a powder that meters well for the sake of consistency.

I’m just not sure where to start in terms of powder for my load development.

You are gonna have to buy 1 lb of each powder and work up from there. Only then you will find how much of which powder for which bullet in what weight that your rifle shoots best for you. Its time consuming

I like blc-2 more with heavier bullets and 335/844 with lighter bullets because of their burn rates. I really like blc-2 for .308

          They both meter extremely well.

I prefer H335 for loads up to 69 gr. It meters very well.

Rarely do I shoot heavier bullets, if I do, I use Varget on Hornady or SMK 75gr and AMAX for my bolt rifle.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I have shot alot of blc-2 in .223 and it works fine , I shoot it out of my 14 inch contender and it is a real boomer . A freind with a 300 win mag will not shoot next to me if i am going to light that thing off .

                Powder

use the H335 up to 69gr. After that use the BLC-2 for the heavier bullets. The OAL will be the same unless your using 80gr, then it's 2.435

I bought some BLC-2 today because thats all that was in stock...

Do you think it will be fine with 68gr Hornady Match?

Im assume BLC-2 is slower burning than H335, which is why its not recommended for use with lighter bullets?

Hornady still has BLC-2 in their reloading handbook for 52 and 55gr bullets...

On my chart and reload manual it show in the order from hot to cool BLC(2), H-335, H4895 and Varget.
But there All in the same practical area.

after years of reloading .223/5.56 ammo, Varget and RE15 provides the best results thus far.

i know you only mentioned the two powders....but AA2230 can be used for almost every bullet weight. It also meters very well. As always work your way up and chrono your loads.

                        Just giving you choices.

                          Thanks everyone.

I just got some H335 as well. So I will try both and see where it takes me.

I think next I would like to try some short cut extruded powder like H322 and Benchmark but I’m not sure if it’s worth trying in a progressive press. Others have also recommend H4895 and Varget but again I have the same concerns with metering on the RCBS Pro 2000 powder measure…
