If I were you, I'd buy the Nosler's at the current $143.95 price. It's not going to get any cheaper. If you're that concerned about price, just buy $1K. Shipping is only $10 give or take to CA.

Dec 2006, I bought 4K at $99.95 per 1K. January it went up to $126.95 per 1K. I bought another 4K at that price in Dec 2007. Then that last week of Dec 2007, it went up to the current $143.95 per 1K price.

Even at $143.95 per 1K, it's only $72 per 500 which is less expensive than the Sierra Match Kings, even at the old 2007 prices. Unless Grafs gets the Hornady 75gr BTHP back in stock (they've been out of stock on the 75 BTHP for about 8 months) and keeps it at the old price of $63~ per 600ct, there really isn't a cheaper option.

I'm pretty sure the Nosler 80s on the Specials page will be back in stock soon. But if you're looking to shoot 80s, I'd recommend the Berger 80gr VLDs. I was a bit hesitant to go with those because of all the scuttlebutt about the VLDs being finnicky regarding seating depth. But I found them very easy to load for accuracy. I shot some at the Creedmoor Cup this past Oct in PHX using the Berger 80VLD replacing the 80gr SMK in my 600 yard load (same exact load, just swapped bullets) and shot a 194 without trying too hard.

The Berger 80VLD is only about $20 per 100ct, so they're pretty much the same price as the Sierra 80gr Match Kings. After I go through my last one and half 500ct boxes of 80gr SMKs, I'll probably replenish my 600 yard bullet inventory with Berger VLDs.

I find that 69gn Noslers are pretty good all around bullets. Accurate and 1x9 compatible. Need for 75+grn is not warranted unless you're a serious competition shooter or a hunter of some kind. Also if you plan to reload these, you need to be familiar with basic .223 REM loading system. It might be slightly more difficult (vs. 55grn FMJBT) due to longer length. And to seat these at proper length for AR operation, precise powder measurement is crucial. IMHO
I've already stock piled Nosler 69grns and Hornady 68grns while they were cheap early last year.

i want to load and shoot the 77 grain bullets because i think they will be more accurate in my 1:7 twist barrel vs. the 69. im not sure i want to go as high as 80 grains though, but that price is pretty good! if it comes back in stock, i just may have to pick up a 1000 to try out.

Just making sure you aren't tunnel visioned on the price: you are aware that you have to single load ammo using 80gr bullets in the AR-15, right?

Does anyone else find it odd that a thread started on a quality complaint seemed to generate more interest and sales of the product? Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Not sure if the term applies here but, "Any publicity is good publicity?" I also find that Noslers .30-cal lines are good alternatives to SMKs. Dont get me wrong, SMKs are really nice bullets and gold standards to match grade bullets. But Nosler .30 Cal. 168 Gr. HPBT are pretty darn accurate at 400yrds. Just an alternative to cheapskates like myself who likes to shoot more. IMHO.

I may have had a quality complaint on this purchase, but my overall experience with Nosler CCs have been very good. I will be buying them again.
