    Lee alox users question

Does anyone use liquid alox for cast bullets? Do you apply straight from bottle or do you thin it?
Mine i applied straight it takes 3 days to dry and is too thick.
    Thanks for replying.

50/50 mixture of alox and Johnson's paste wax. Dries in a little under 24 hours. You can also do a 45/45/10 mixture of alox, paste wax, and mineral spirits to thin it. Lay out on wax paper with ventilation.

Another trick I use is to use two bottles of alox. Use one as your mixing bottle, the other as your Alox supply. Put a small washer or nut in the mixing bottle to help mix the alox and paste wax when you shake it up. If you run the bottle under hot water for about 10 minutes it makes I even easier to mix.

I just put a smidge in a Tupperware and shake shake shake. I have never cut it with anything. Then I spread them out on some aluminum foil. They normally dry overnight, i have also used a hairdryer to speed the drying. You might be putting it on too thick.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

Thanks I was having a pain with the straight application, although no leading it was messy and slow to dry. Will try the 45/45/10 and or 50/50 thanks again.

I got a plastic peanut jar to tumble bullets in it seems to work well. at the rate I was using it 50 bullets required 1 bottle at $5.00 per.

That is wayyyyyyyy too much alox. No wonder it wasn't drying. You should be getting hundreds of lubed bullets per bottle. With myh 50/50 mixture, I can probably get around 700-800, maybe more. You only need a light coating on your bullets so that there is a bit of an amber sheen to them, and enough lube to fill the lube grooves of the bullet. Put about 100 bullets in a used butter tub, or peanut butter jar as you're doing, and give the bullets a quick squirt or two. Swish them around for about 30 seconds. If they are all coated, pour them out on wax paper and let dry.

          Good luck.

These are some of my tumble lubed bullets for my 45-70. As you can see, they really don't require a lot of lube.

Gallon size ziploc bag full of bullets with a tablespoon of alox. Do the shake and bake thing (without baking) and pour the coated bullets out to dry.

Try buying your A-lox from White Label Lubes. He can't use the name A-Lox, so he calls it X-Lox. Same product, just cost less and he has all the other types of lubes as well.

I've gotten excellent service from him and people over at Cast Boolits rate him well!

The 45/45/10 mixture also known as Recluse's formula dries in about 1/2 hour under a fan in the summer and when using Oderless mineral spirits, has virtually no stink to it.

On top of that, the bullets are not sticky after they dry. You can drop a bullet into a bunch of smokeless powder (such as in a kinetic puller) and the flakes simply brush off. You only need enough to barely coat the bullet after all the shaking. Any more simply results in more smoke when you shoot them.

I use it straight. I'm just careful how much I use.

Leave it out in the sun if at all possible. It's summertime, and things should dry up pretty nicely. BTW, it's always going to be a little sticky/tacky.
