    Diluting Nu Finish?

I recently switched from Frankford Arsenal's brass polish to Nu Finish. The Frankford polish was a lot thinner, and it mixed in with the media much, much faster than Nu Finish.
I tried Nu Finish for the first time last week, and it took hours of tumbling for the clumps to finally disappear. The Frankford polish would only take a few minutes.

Has anyone ever tried mixed anything in their Nu Finish polish to make it a little thinner? Would mineral spirits do the trick?

Yes, minerral spirits will work. I've done it. But nowadays I don't bother. Just a cap of nufinish. And I only wait 5 or 10 minutes before I toss in the brass. I've never had any problems doing it this way.

I drizzle it on the media all the way around the top of the tumbler and don't have any problems with clumping.

Depends on the tumbler. Some have a poorer tumbling action than others. Are you using the Frankford Arsenal tumbler? That thing tumbles extremely slow.

I use the Frankford Arsenal tumbler. Seems to be slower with corn cob medium than with walnut (the walnut tumbles pretty fast).

Don't dump the entire cap in there at once. Let it go in more slowly than that. And actually, I use more than just a capful; it's more like four or five capfuls. Very shiny brass is the result.

Let it tumble for maybe an hour with nothing else in there. Then add your brass.

I have had the same problem as you. What i do is get a plastic grocery bag (if not in San Franciso). Put a cup of corn cob media in with your polish. Work the media around for a miniute and it will go right in. Put in your tumbler and you are good to go.

I use walnut and just put in a cap full of Nu finish straight in with my brass. I also add in some dryer sheets and let it run. I haven't experience any clumping whatsoever.

I tried "Gel Gloss" and had pretty good results... Its my go to polish for taking off hard water stains on boats, cars, etc. Gave it a whirl in my tumbler and it turned out good.

When I change media (using Corn Cob right now) I put in a few capfuls of NuFinish and run my new media for a couple of hours. After that I get no clumping or media clinging inside the cases, keeps the dust down and also shines things up real purty.

I use a bit of mineral spirits. Drizzling the polish slowly into the media helps avoid clumps.

I just coat the dryer sheet with the cap of nu finish. That way no clumps and the media works it off the sheet.

What kind of media are you using?

I've been using Nu-Finish for years and I only wait about 15 minutes of running the vibratory cleaner to mix the Nu-Finish with the crushed walnut shell before I toss in the brass. I only pour in a small amount of Nu-Finish and mineral spirits. Maybe a tablespoon or two for each. I don't measure.

I handload my own ammunition and I frequently get asked how I get my fired brass so clean. My brass cleaning process is very simple, but with extra steps compared to most people. Before I start, he…
