Reloading station tweaks

I have the Lee challenger breech Lock kit, which came with the hand held speed primer thing, but I hate it, so I use the built in priming function of the press. But I like the tray, and like to have it right next to the bottom of the press. I made a mount that lets me lock it down for use, or take it off to load primers and shake them out:



I also like to dump rounds into bins (unless I just filled them with powder). So I came up with a cheap home depot way to mount containers next to the press that I can attach or detach with the twist of an eye screw.



And I don't know why it's not made to do this already, but I wanted to mount the powder measure right above the press, so I could dump through the expander die. A small piece of wood and four screws made it all work:

Have you looked at the Lee Safety Prime for your press? It makes using the primer arm on the press really fast. No handling primers with your hand.

I did something similar with the containers.

I have around 20 of those little buckets you get at casinos to put your slot coins in.

I took one and using a screw right through the side of it attached it to the side of the bench. Take another and drop it in side the first to allow for easy removal of contents.

this could be done with almost any set matching containers.

After seeing how horrible the Auto-Prime XR worked (upside down and sideways primers, and one of the tabs on the clear cover broke off.), I think I'm just going to do it by hand and stay away from gadgets.

Also, I only load about 100-200 at a time, so I'm not really doing mass production.

I have used the Safety Prime for over 15K on a Classic Turret, worked great, very fast, but to each their own.

My recommendation would be with the same order that you buy the Safety Prime from Factory Sales, buy an Auto Disk Pro and do a case activated powder drop, it will be as accurate as that Perfect Powder Measure drop and make things faster.

But again, to each his own, I like the handiwork in any case.

That's the way all press mounted primer drops should be mounted. No questions if the powder dropped or not, got stuck in the drop tube, etc. You KNOW it dropped.

I have the same challenger press, and (sorry this may be a little OT) but when I resize a case the spent primers almost always pops out on the right side of the press, (instead of in the tube on the left). Not a big deal, I tape a bag to the right side of the press to catch them, but has anyone come up with a work around to direct the spent primers in the correct direction?

I believe you are supposed to use the primer lever to direct the old primer to the left side.

Yes, the primer lever will direct them into the hole.

You could mount the powder drop over the safety prime arm. Just use longer screws. I have used the safety prime since I have had my press. It works fast and has always worked great. It makes it very easy to get into a consistent rythm except for the last primer, it always seems to take an extra click to get it to come out.

Primer lever? Hmm..not sure what that is. I'll look it up.

It's the metal thing that lets you prime cases when you bottom out the press. It hooks on to the press ram. You should have gotten two of them in your kit.
