    storing tumbled brass

so i got a thumler model b last month. i'm itching to use it but i don't have all my reloading equipment. i'm still stuck in powder, primers, fired brass and my my tumbler + collet puller.

i wanna fire the tumbler up. will zip lock bags or just containers like my kids empty formula, costco's mocha d'vitta or cycling power drink mix work? (the containers are cleaned of course).

just wondering if there are cons of cleaning brass now and letting it sit while i still continue getting equipment slowly.

will the brass tarnish since it doesn't have a coating of the lube (that's wiped off after) and fresh off water based tumbling even if dried in the sun after?

It will get a little darker, not as bright but it won't hurt anything. Use whatever containers you have.

Its fine to store tumbled, i dont see how it would get messed up from just sitting there.

Costco nut containers and similar containers are perfect for storing brass. Peel off the label and you can see what you have at a glance.

That's what I use in addition to ziplock bags. Those Costco cashews are terrific !

yeah.. well, i got those costco nut jars too. sometimes chocolate covered.

thanks! i just really wanna run this thing. my plan is tumble wet, i have a small compressor to blow excess water out, then just dry under the sun. should only be 1-2 hours max in east bay heat in siiicon valley. while it's hot, i hope to clean the brass so it dries faster under a warmer sun vs. later in the year when i have (hopefully) my other equipment in.

By the way, ive really taken to storing brass in Tupperware. The long shallow ones are awesome and stack up so they dont take up space. Plus theres alot of surface area to spray lube over so you dont have to keep spraying.

Costco sells a 7-bin pack of storage bins that are long, rectangular and shallow. They handle a couple of thousand cases each.
In a pinch, the large flimsy Strawberry containers work too (as long as you don't plan on moving them around much - and they even have breathing holes to keep your brass fresh)

mine sit in an open tub on my bench. It's dry in there, haven't had any corrosion or change in brass color. The worst they get is sawdust from time to time. If I see anything that looks unclean, they get a 30 minute trip through the corncob and I just start loading out of the tub while it runs. Makes me glad my reasonably priced tumbler is stable enough to run while open.

                            I've seen those buckets.

I use gallon zip lock bags sorted by headstamp and then various stackable plastic containers.

I store brass, whether it's dirty, ready to load, trimmed, etc., in coffee cans, or any other good sized containers that I save from going into the recycling bin.

For bullets, I use pasta sauce, dressing and other smaller jars. I like the clear containers so I can do a quick visual of inventory on bullets.
