    .40 Powder

I'm getting ready to reload my first batch of .40 and am trying to decide which powder to use. I have Clays, Longshot, and HS-7 on hand...what do you guys think?

ETA: I'll be using Berry's 155gr FP with this load.

    I'd use Clays. I personally use W231.

are you gonna use it for just plinking or competition?

      Just plinking, nothing serious.

        All three will work.

Longshot will give you the largest loading window and the highest potential velocity, although don't load it to manufacturer maximum as you then will be exceeding Berry's recommended speed limit.

Clay's will be most cost effective.

I have been using W231 since I started loading 40 and 180gr Berry's and X-Treme. Hasn't failed me yet. I have some PP and AA#5 to try out in my next loading session.

I have used WST HP38 and am now using Bullseye I find it has more of a push than the snap .40 are known for.

I now have one powder for all my plinking loads in .45ACP, .357/38, .40 and 9mm

FWIW: I have tried AA-5, and had no good results with it. It was dirty and a lot of unburned powder in the case and barrel. It could be just the lot, but I have used AA-7 & AA-9 with good results.

I have had similar results with #5 and even #7 when I tried to download my 240gr .44RM's to about 1000-1100fps with it.

I just bought 8lbs of #9 tonight, love the stuff.

I appreciate all the advice! I'll probably end up going with the Longshot, as I'm trying to reduce the number of powders I keep on hand. Think that stuff will sound as nice in my Glock as it does in my shotgun?

You will like it a lot, great performance, you need to get a 10mm now, LS works great loading 10mm hot.

If you're loading for 9, 40, 45 & shotgun, you can't beat WSF. It can be loaded light, or up to +P velocities, while maintaining great accuracy throughout, and it meters like water.

Yeah, been thinking about picking up something in 10mm for a while now. Any favorites?

I love my G20SF and G29SF. After a little bit of trigger work and I shoot them as well as my best 1911. Can't beat the value of the large frame Glocks.
