    .300 Savage bullets?

Among the blemished bullets being sold by Midwayusa is one listed as .300 Savage (.308 dia). What makes it any more a .300 Savage bullet than any other cartridge that takes .308?

It is designed to work(expand etc) at a lower speed than so other .308 dia bullets. They also make bullets for 30-30 and they are designed to work at lower speeds as well as in a tube mag. They also make bullets that are for the mags and they preform like cr*p at lower speed.
I loaded up some .308 dia bullets designed for 30-30 cartridges in 30-06 brass for a friends son who was having a hard time with recoil. I down-loaded them to almost 30-30 speeds. It also turns out there was not a real recoil pad on the rifle he was shooting and the stock was too long. Loaned him a shoulder type recoil pad and his shooting improved greatly.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

It is possible the bullets are cannalured in a different location to accommodate the short neck of the 300sav.
Otherwise most regular 30 cal bullets are useble in the 300.
The short neck does not work well with heavy long bullets, especially cast.

I second GUNBOAT. The 300 Savage as not THAT poor a performer until you get to the heavier bullets. It was designed to be a .30-06, after all. it didn't make it, but it was pretty close.

Yes that can be also. That is one reason I forgot at the time I posted. I have some pistol bullets with two on them for use with 2 different cartridges using the same bullet.
