    45acp loads

Doing my first 45acp loads. using w231 over Berrys 230gn rn. Would be shooting out of 1911 Government Model and a g30sf.

    I see loads starting @ 4.3 to a max of 5.1. I was thinking doing a loads @ about 4.6 or 4.8. Anyone have favorite recipe ?

Sounds about right. I don't load a lot of W231 in .45ACP anymore, but my notes say 230gr plated RN over 4.7gr of W231 seated to 1.240" was what my 1911's favored. I don't have a G30SF, but my G21SF will eat anything I throw at it. I shoot all my mistakes that one of my 1911's might get finicky about through my G21SF.

    Good luck, have fun.

I've been shooting 4.5 grn of bullseye using 230 grn moly coated LRN at 1.130 in my G21sf and they shoot great. Have not tried w231 but will be trying some w Clays here shortly

I did test loads with 231 and didn't like it so no on that front. I do really like 4.6gn of titegroup. I have test loads made up with AA#5 and longshot loaded up so once I shoot them I will post or pm you if I remember to.
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

I use W231 and i use 5.2gr with 230gr RN. My Lyman manual said max 5.7gr using w231. So far no issues with my 1911s.

230g plated over 4.8g seated at the max COL over 231 is good to go for me.

Same for me except I'm using Berry's. Use the same for Bear Creek 230gr LRN, and i get great results on both.

I've had good success with W231 using the following (5" 1911 with 16lb recoil spring):

                  200gr SWC (Berrys), 4.6gr W231, 1.23" OAL
                  230gr RN (Bear Creek) 4.6gr W231, 1.25" OAL
                  230gr RM (Bear Creek) 5.1gr W231, 1.25" OAL

I have reloaded 230gr RN FMJ and plated at 5.1, 5.3, 5.5 and 5.7 of W231 and HP38. I prefer 5.3 recoil and cycling of my 1911s. 5.7 recoil was pretty stout

                      update on reloads

I made about 50 4.7gr w231 oal @ 1.25. Does the crimp look good to you guys ? I did the "thumb push test" and there is no movement...

Might be too much crimp from what I can see in the pics.

I use W231 for lead, plated and jacketed. Your crimps do look a little heavy. The goal is to remove the "bell" in the case mouth and still feed reliably.

Thanks. I revised my crimp. I am also loading some 225gr lead over 5.0gr w231 at oal 1.19 for my 1911. Anyone used these truncated before with good results ? Got these in a trade..
