Reloading .223 ammo, music is on, my first 30-40 powder drops are spot on, lock it in and start churning out ammo at a healthy speed (for a single stage press). I get through about 180 rounds with my nights goal being 300. I did a random "quality check" and my scale clunks down like I had enough powder for 50 BMG...WTF? I check my powder measure and turns out the lock screw for the micrometer came loose and started pouring heavy. Start pulling bullets to see how far back the mistake goes... Yup, my last accurate pour was after the 50th bullet. So now I get to pull 130 rounds and start over. YAY!

there should be a locking washer or rubber ring in the micrometer to prevent the lock ring from working loose. Make sure there is one.

what kind of powder measure are you using?

I am using an older Redding (classic model 3?) and there is no rubber ring... ok now there is a brand new rubber O-ring on the lock screw. Too little too late I know.

That does suck bawls, but atleast you checked! A date with a bullet puller, is obviously better than a date with the ER Doc & the accompanying damage to your rifle.

Too late is when you post a thread on the catastrophic failure and injury you sustained from one of these rounds. Someone is watching out for you. :-)

So the heaviest charge was 28 grains of BL-C(2) with a Speer 55g Spitzer bullet... I was going for a modest 26 grain charge. According to the bottle of powder, max charge is 27.5 grains. Glad I checked.

This is why i go in steps on a single stage (and also why i dont like turret presses), ill charge 300 cases and look inside all of them before seating. If you use a flashlight it takes like 5 seconds.

this is why i don't bother trying to go fast or see how many i can make after x amount of time anymore. it usually leads to mistakes or errors.

i reload for an hour, whatever i get done, i get done. the rest I save for the next night.

I charge a tray of 50, then pull 3 at random and weigh before seating bullets. I've been where you are too many times to worry about saving that minute anymore.

Yep +1 on the collet puller. I'm pulling about 500 rounds of .223 and it's so much neater and easier then having to use a Kinetic puller.
