    best ammo brands

I was searching the threads but couldn't really find anything on a list of good ammo brands and not so good ammo brands I know a lot of it is mostly preference, but I would like to see some good recommendations for use at the range

      Good?

Good for what? Accuracy? Plinking? Affordability?

Someone who wants supreme accuracy will not think that the most affordable ammo is "good". Likewise ... someone who wants ultimate affordability probably won't think ammo made for accuracy is very "good" because it is pricey.

What you talkin' about Willis? More info, please.

Your own, if you have a fair mind and good habits.

Barring those I would buy Black Hills.

I'm going to have to agree with the others... best for what? Match, Plinking, Personal Defense, Practice...

On top of that... I don't think there is a best... everyones guns and preferences are different. Best for one may not be best for all.

Just get a box of as many brands and types as you can find and see what you and your gun likes. Its a simple, and fun process...

Depends a lot on the range as well. Personally, I don't mind the Russian Tulammo or Wolf one bit, and my guns like it, but some ranges ban it because the bullet's jacket is steel with a very thin copper-wash. That steel in the jacket can and does spark when it hits something else hard, like concrete floors. That's a fire hazard.

The following assumes that you don't yet reload your own.

If you're shooting handgun rounds, any of the American brands are fine, as are Prvi Partizan, PMC, Fiocchi, and Sellier & Bellot.

For rifles, that's going to be much more gun-dependent, since you're typically shooting longer distances.

BTW, have you considered reloading? Be it handgun or rifle, you'll save money and get custom ammo, plus you know you'll always have an ammo supply.

Short answer, and just my opinion:

              1) for personal defense (carry pistol, home defense pistol) use what LE uses. Primarily that will be Winchester Ranger T (or the newer PDX-1,) Gold Dot or Federal HST.

              2) For the range, in general buy what is cheapest. Learn to look for deals. Some ranges forbid the use of steel case ammo, like Wolf, so be mindful of where you are going to shoot before buying any.
