    Tumbling Question

I use crushed walnut shells from the local feed store and a cap of NU FINISH polish from Walmart. Shiny does not load any better than clean dull brass. I shine it up because I off load excess brass and people like shiney brass.

Cut up 2 or 3 used dryer sheets & throw them in the tumbler too. That will keep the dust down, and helps leave less media residue on the brass.

Crushed Walnut will clean quicker but won't polish to quite as high a luster, Corn Cob will take longer and polish to a higher luster.

Right now I am using Corn Cob from here: http://www.drillspot.com/products/49...bs_blast_media

If you have a Grainger store nearby, they also carry the same stuff.

I use a little NuFinsh car polish in the media and also put a couple used dryer sheets in with each load, they kind of act as a filter for the nastiest stuff.

Walnut shells from harbor freight with a squirt of chrome polish, tossing in a few dryer sheets does make a big difference.

if you really want dat shine, u gotta use a tumbler and steel media!

(although i think it tarnishes a quicker than using corn cob and nufinish)

My first brass tumbling was about 50 cases in white rice .

It worked pretty darn good. I got my tumbler and wanted to try it out but didn't have media.........so rice it was.

Now it's corn cob and a squirt of chrome polish and dryer sheets....like mentioned above.

How can you say this is the cheapest way to go when you can go to the pet store and get corn cob in 40lb bags for 7.00 4x's cheaper...

And the brass cleans up just fine.. just like the high priced media.

                            Note my words "pretty much".
My nearby pet stores did not have that option so I had to order from Drillspot or go to a nearby Grainger. Actually the 1 pet store I found that had it turned out to be too coarse of media. MANY people have this same problem. If you're fortunate enough to have a pet store that sells it by the 40lb bag, and the media is fine enough, that's wonderful.
